Didn't the Brewers retire Hank Aaron's number?

    LJ actually makes good points.

I'd share mofo's opinion if Robinson didn't play for the Brooklyn Dodgers

There isn't a statue of Seaver yet?!? Seaver is IMO the best right handed pitcher of all-time and definitely the best Met. Disgraceful!! The new ballpark better have a ****ing Seaver statue!!

They haven't done any statues. I mean, statues in my mind aren't a necessity, but it would certainly be nice....

Not a necessity but a tribute to your teams best. I love going to St. Louis and seeing that statue of Stan the Man.

I've never been to STL....and like I said, I'd love to see a statue of Seaver. It'd be awesome. But as of now, there haven't been any statues put up outside of Shea/Citi...

Gwynn, of course. I always liked the idea of having 1 or 2 statues of a franchise's best player(s) outside the stadium....

Eh. How bout we realize that the Mets are the ones sponsoring the soon to come Jackie Robinson museum, and not your Dodgers? How bout we realize that we have Ms. Rachel Robinson every year, you don't? How bout we realize that we donate millions of dollars to the Robinson foundation? How bout we realize that we STAY IN THE CITY THAT LOVES US?

How about we realize that the New York Mets are not the rebirth of the Brooklyn Dodgers no matter how much they try to buy their history?

We're not buying it. We simply took the torch that you and the Giants abandoned. We are the birth of your abandoning a city, so we have a claim to remember that which made us.

He wanted a meeting with Moores that included his agent, and SA was not going to allow that, especially after Hoffy's side showed enough disrespect by not even responding to the offer placed on the table, which he knew about for over a month. Hoffman tried to go over their heads, and there is no situation where that is an acceptable practice in business.

He wanted to know what direction the team was going and after pulling their $4 million offer and their attempts to trade Peavy and Greene, it was apparent they are rebuilding and shedding salary.
Peavy might not be dealt, and if he is it's for a windfall of talent that would likely improve the team next year and for years to come.

Greene turned down a contract last year and then proceeded to shit the bed in 2008 and essentially ruined his chances of remaining a Padre. That's Greene's doing 100%, and if they don't deal him for something, they will get nothing. Plus if they did deal Peavy, Escobar is probably an upgrade....

Hoffman met with the same people before his last deal and did not like the situation then either.
After he tried to negotiate a contract.....that's going through the proper channels and not circumventing the chain of command.....which is wrong.

Trying to meet with Alderson, Towers and Moores is not something wrong to do. Its understandable. They turned him down and its there fault!!
That's not what happened.......KT and SA are exactly who wanted to meet with him, and Hoffman wanted to go over their heads and speak privately (along with his agent) with Moores. That was the problem.

As for Giles, the Padres are better off dealing Giles now
Giles said to the effect....If we're out of it by the deadline (Aug) then I might be open to being traded.....that still leaves most of next season with him in RF.

The problem here is that the media is taking too much out of context here and creating a bullshit whirlwind that doesn't exist.....

FYI Hoffman is meeting with SA and KT today I think and they could be back in contract negs as soon as today

Of course, he made it as a New York Giant, so the hat would closely resemble that of the New York Mets.

(The NY designs were identical, the color of the hat was the only difference)
