Right? Because the Padres have done a stellar job finding potential bottom of the rotation arms like Baek, Correia, Ryu, etc.......

I'm not saying he'll be better, but why not......we're inviting every other pitcher not already on a roster to camp

Correia has at least faced MLB pitching and done well. This guy is stinking it up in the Mexican League. Sign Pedro if you want a pitcher with a real shot.

Guess you didn't hear. Right after the guy shut off the video, Prior's arm completely flew off his body

The Padres screwed up and did better than the Mariners and Nationals last year.

Yup......I argued with so many last year at the end.....saying that we should literally throw the remainder of the season in order to secure this pick.......**** it..... losing 99 games and missing out on him, or losing 102 games (or whatever) and getting him......

Padres added Duaner Sanchez on a minor league deal. Sanchez was released by the Mets last week.

According to the Washington Post, Shawn Hill has agreed to a minor league contract with the Padres.
San Diego may have trouble avoiding 100 losses this season, but general manager Kevin Towers is always looking for intriguing players off the scrap heap. Hill was released last week by the Nationals and has never been able to stay healthy, but has the potential to be a mid-rotation starter if he can avoid injuries for once.
Always good to have a warm body in AAA just in case.

    Re: 2008-2009 Offseason thread

Padres acquired RHP Eulogio De La Cruz from the Marlins for cash considerations.
It wasn't a straight waiver claim, but it's still a nice grab for the Padres. De La Cruz lacks polish for a 25-year-old, but he has the stuff to excel out of the pen and it's possible he'll break through this year.
I don't trust it since the Marlins are giving up a player making under $1 million.

    Re: 2008-2009 Offseason thread

Padres acquired RHP Edward Mujica from the Indians for a player to be named later or cash.
Mujica was certain to go on waivers and nearly as much of a lock to make it to the Padres once there, so the Indians can't be getting anything of significance in return, unless the Padres' front office is even more disfunctional than everyone believes. Mujica looked like a quality relief prospect a couple of years ago and he's still just 24, but he's regressed and showed few signs of becoming a quality major leaguer. Better options will be available on waivers.
Yet another small time move for the Padres.
