He owns more than 49% of the team so he can still sell 49% of the team.

If he does that it leaves himself 31%

    new owner: 49
    Other guys: 20

Oh yeah, he can sell it. Question is who buys it.

He's said he will remain the majority share holder.........so clearly that's not the math involved guys......

And he can only sell 49% of what he owns.........you never word it 49% of the entire business even though I only own X amount......come on now

If he said he'll still be majority owner then it's clearly what you posted, but he can still say "I'm selling 49% of the team" if he's selling 49% of the team....which he is perfectly capable of doing.

Why can't you say 49 percent of the team when it's 49 percent of the team?

it'd certainly be a lot easier than saying "I'm selling 61.25 percent of my shares"

Oh I see what you are saying now. Just trying to make the wife happy and sell half his share.

Because in a business relationship you are then speaking for the other owners, and that isn't acceptable behavior. He can sell that %, but the wording would have been different mostly for legal purposes.

I would think saying what percentage of the team he's selling would make more sense, as you're viewing the thing as a whole.

What percentage he has left over afterwords is trivial. (In regards to the context of the sentence stating how much he's selling, anyways.)

He's selling 39.2% of the team so I would think it'd make more sense to say he's selling 39.2% of the team.

But that's just my opinion of what would make more sense to me. I have no clue as to the legality of such matters.

Well that might be true HWood.......but he can't speak for the other owners, and that's what he'd be doing.....

How would he be speaking for the other owners? 49 percent of the team is 49 percent of the team and it'd be 49 percent of the team that he owns.

Because he can only speak for 80% of that team.......not the entire 100%....

Look believe what you need.......it's obvious what he was saying, and only makes sense one way......not sure why you're clinging to this.......mountain and mole hill man....

I'm not clinging onto anything. I was just expressing my opinion, you responded, and I replied.

Such is the nature of message boards.

Any rate, regardless of semantics, he's selling 39.2 percent of the team and maintaining majority ownership, making the whole thing not really matter to us fans.

It matters when they reduce payroll and with our current economic meltdown, they might have to cut back even more.
