Bochy took the Padres to the playoffs every year he had a roster worth anything, except for 1997.

Bochy hasn't really had much to work with in SF either...
    Nobody lookin out for nobody
Maybe we should try and help somebody or be somebody
Instead of being somebody that makes the news
So everybody can tweet about it
And then they start to R.I.P. about it
And four weeks later nobody even speaks about it.

His decision making is just awful. I see no strategy, only madness. Look what he has done the past two years. He batted a guy with an OBP under .300 at leadoff for most of last year with a player hitting worse batting second. Who does that? Giants might not have much to work with but with a smart manager, the Giants could in the hunt in this awful division.

It's in the years when Bochy doesn't have much to work with that you really see what kind of manager he truly is.......and it was obvious with the Padres, and just echos in SF......

    Re: Dear Baseball Fan:

Bochy is not the manager you want when you don't have a roster that's capable of competing, because that's when his insistence to heavily favor the aging vets really hurts the team.

When you're not competing you'd rather see what the youngsters can do....especially if the vets aren't even doing anything anyways.

Give Bochy a roster worth anything and a bullpen and he'll win.

Give me a roster worth anything and a bullpen and I'll win too........Hell insert just about anyone into that role........

A manager isn't there for only the good times, he earns his money when the team needs managing.......not when it's on cruise control with great talent everywhere........

Torre with the Yanks -----IMO he didn't do shit and just let the great players they bought work for them

Torre on the Dodgers and he's struggled with much less talent, and they had to go get more top talent in order for him to put everything back on cruise control

If you can't win with great talent you suck.......if you can make a run with mediocre talent then you're doing a good job

    Re: Dear Baseball Fan:

    Now you're overgeneralizing.

Nobody....I repeat NOBODY could have done anything with the Padres, circa 1999-2003, and NOBODY could have done much with the Giants the past two years.

Bochy didn't exactly have Yankees rosters in his time with the Padres outside that window, save perhaps 1998, yet he still managed to get the team to the playoffs all the time when the roster wasn't full of scrubs lucky to even have a job.

And I'd submit that a good manager would at least manage what he has well regardless of the talent levels.......which is what I think both LTR and I are saying.......Bochy does NOT do this, and never has

By your argument managers aren't even needed and they may as well have some scrub off the streets fill out a line up card every day.

    Re: Dear Baseball Fan:

I could have done something with this Giants team no doubt about it. When the Giants were only seven games out in late June what did Bochy do? Nothing!! He kept playing guys like Vizquel and the hit or miss Bowker. Castillo still had a roster spot. Tyler Walker kept blowing leads. When you realize the division is shit and only seven games, you act on it!! A good manager can at least get your team to be competitive no matter what the roster. Ron Gardenhire doesn't seem to have a problem working with lesser talent. Bochy sucks ass and better be fired after this year.

Saw a pic of him the other day and he was filthy, reminded me of that pigpen dude the Pads used to have, Owens. He certainly looked like a gamer.

BTW ,the Pads just lost big to the Dogs and I'm loving it as the D'bags are slipping further and further away.....
