Injury Prior Done for the Season

SAN FRANCISCO -- Padres manager Bud Black said on Sunday that pitcher Mark Prior will have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder this week.

Prior, attempting to come back from major shoulder surgery in April 2007, will have the anterior capsule of his right shoulder repaired by team physicians in San Diego.

Earlier this month, Prior learned that he had a tear in the capsule of his shoulder when he visited orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the original surgery on Prior's shoulder on April 24, 2007.

After that diagnosis, Prior was told not to pick up a baseball for two weeks. At the end of those two weeks, he would be re-evaluated.

Prior signed a one-year deal with San Diego on Dec. 26 for $1 million with incentives that could have reached $3 million.

"For Mark, I can't imagine how frustrated he is," Black said.

Can't blame the Padres for taking the gamble, a lot of other teams would have taken it too (with fans glad that they did.) It's a shame that Prior wasn't able to get healthy and make a comeback, but with this news you have to wonder if he's considering calling it a career. I know he is still a young man, a young man who had huge hopes and dreams just a few years ago but even he has to have doubts in his arm being able to retire MLB batters and if surgery would just be more pain and rehab with no reward.

Another PFF prediction down the shitter. Tough break for Prior and it makes you wonder if he will ever pitch again. I hope so because when healthy, he was a top five pitcher. Too bad we didn;t get to see it enough. Padres are lucky they are only out $1 mil.

Actually, I think it was FmrFresnan that made the shitty prediction.

It is a shamebecause he has so much potential to be a good pitcher. I don't know how much longer teams will give him a chance to comeback. He sadly could be at the end of his rope.
