    Re: Spring Training thread

I give up trying to find it, but someone at another board I post at linked this article where this guy did a study and listed the positions on the diamond from hardest to field to easiest. He basically stated that you can move right on the list throughout your career, but not the other way around.

I remember catcher was first, shortstop next, and first base was last.

I can't remember if LF came before 3B or not, though.

I think catcher is the most physically demanding but not the hardest to play. Well as I write that I feel uncomfortable. The catcher is the general on the field and has to remember a lot. Plus he's catching a 95 mph fastball and ridiculous breaking stuff. It's a toss up between SS and catcher for me. CF would come next for me after SS. I can't see how anyone could put LF over 3b. Third you have hardly any reaction time and have to have quick hands and feet and more athletic. Not so for LF and RF and I played CF all through high school and RF in college. RF was a breeze compared to CF. First base last? Who knew

I'm not suggesting LF is tougher to play than 3rd....I'm suggesting the better athlete is being give the chance to make the transition.

For the record......I'd say catcher is the most demanding, and physically difficult to play........and I don't think it's even close.

I predict Headley will be on the major league roster by May, making this entire debate moot.

Marcus Giles | Rockies | Interested: Dodgers?
Marcus Giles was told by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday that he would not be making the team. However, according to the Rocky Mountain News, the Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in the veteran infielder due to their growing injury concerns with Jeff Kent (hamstring), Andy LaRoche (torn wrist ligament) and Nomar Garciaparra (broken bone in right hand).

The debate still wouldn't be moot. He should be on the roster now as a third baseman! I think May is reasonable though

If he had a repeat season for the Dodgers like he did for the Padres last year it wouldn't be good (for us) in April, but it'd be great for the rest of the season.

If the Padres have a winning record in April and Headley is on the major league roster by May the debate becomes moot.

If Kouz is mashing, and playing good defense come May the entire idea is moot...

Kouz just TRIPLED in AGon in the 1st inning FYI

Sure if you keep adding things to the debate then it becomes moot. The debate wasn't about when Headley comes up though. I have no doubt Headley's bat will be needed no too long after the season starts. The debate was whether the Padres want a below average third baseman and an average OFer or a good third baseman and an average OFer. Seems like a no brainer doesn't it?

I gotta admit that while it was great to see a Padre game on my TV last night again, it did send shivers down my spine and bring back bad memories to see Kouz bobble that very simple ground ball.

Well sadly he can't play the OF.......or this would be a very simple thing....and no amount of oversimplifying it will change what is........ ... They concluded the same thing the Indians did.......he's can't play the OF.......and if the Indians didn't have what at the time they thought was an even better younger prospect in Marte, Kouz would likely still be in Cleveland.
