    Re: FA List

Already got ourselves Randy Wolf and Mark Prior this offseason, so it's already a success regardless of what happens from here on.

    Re: FA List

Iguchi, Wolf & Prior IMO are excellent pickups and could potentially be incredible steals......

Iguchi is a quality 2bag, and might end up with a mult-year deal depending on how well he performs at Petco, and also depending on how serious the Padres are about converting Antonelli to CF now.

Wolf is on an incentive laden deal that could make him quite a bit of money, but only if he's dialed back in. Playing in Petco, with what historically has been a top bullpen to support him, could find a very nice home in the #4/5 role.

Prior is a huge questionmark, but $1 is nothing in th scheme of things, and the reward side is off the charts. Prior is now home, happy, and "healthy" for the firsttime in maybe 2+ seasons. And the same for Wolf applies to him.....Playing in Petco, with what historically has been a top bullpen to support him, could find a very nice home in the #4/5 role, this year. It wouldn't shock me at all to see the Padres lock him up for the next 2+ years on a heavy incentive laden contract should he prove that he's back, healthy, and the Mark Prior we all are thinking he still could be. Thus giving us maybe the best top 3 arms of any rotation in MLB with some damn fine kids on the way.....

I also have a funny feeling DeVanon & Crabbe are both small diamonds in the rough, and will play some pretty big impacts on this club with overall positive results.

Prior could be healthy come July or August but not now.

    Re: FA List

No way now........my best time guess would be mid May or June......that's a timeframe I heard though a Padre FO grapevine (grain of salt), but he's feeling great and throwing off flat ground with zero pain or discomfort......

My guess is Hensley wins the # role, and he and Prior split time in that spot for the remainder of the season.....

My question becomes this........if the above happens, do we keep both Estes and Rusch ? They could both be in Portland or take relief and spot starting roles out of the bullpen.....

If they are throwing well and are not good trade bait then I think the decision is obvious, you keep them. If you can get something in exchange then you think about a trade. We found out last year you can not have enough good arms ready to come up and fill in a much needed spot due to injury or just plain sucking.

    Re: FA List

I have no reason to believe Estes will even make the 40 man roster. I also don't see the Padres rushing Prior into anything. After the Break is where I think prior comes in. He could probably pitch but he shoudl use May and June as his Spring Training and come back 100%

If Shawn Estes is on the roster, you guys are in trouble.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

If Estes is on the 40 roster we're in trouble ? How's this exactly ? Do you even know the names of all the guys listed on the 40 of any team ? If he's on the 25man it's still no biggy, as he could be useful out of the bullpen......but I doubt that greatly........I see him in Portland as out back up to the back up scenario........pitching depth is never a bad thing in any capacity.

    Re: FA List

The thinking that it's no big deal to keep washed up vets on the 40 man roster is a reason why a former Padre prospect with potential like Joakim Soria currently plays for Kansas City instead of SD.

    Re: FA List

I guess the same could be said for wasting money on players like Pierre and Gonzalez instead of allowing your young studs to play full time eh ?

    Re: FA List

Sure, but that doesn't mean I'd agree with their decision to do that. But anyway, why would we want to allow our young studs to play full time? After all, according to Leo, we'd be playing our "Double-A" players.
