What is Productive for a player?

We have many debates/arguements that stem from what seems to be people having different ideas of what a players worth to a team is, or whether or not they could be productive etc.........So I think it makes sense for people to tell everyone what they believe is productive. That way the rest of us will know where you're coming from.........

Blum and Jenkins are a good place to start .........

A productive starting 2b in my mind for this teams needs must be a guy that puts up stats near or better than .280+ba / .750+OPS, while playing stellar defense ( maybe not GG, but stellar ).........IMO Blum can't do that

A productive starting corner OFer for this teams needs must be a guy now that puts up stats near or better than .280+ / 25+hr's / 90+rbi, with great range, and a strong arm, especially in RF. Preferrably batting from the right side of the plate..........IMO Jenkins can't touch that

So he can tell me how wrong I am without putting his opinion in...just the way it works.

Re: What is Productive for a player?

Just so he can't say "where's your opinion"

Productive to me is a player that can do pretty much everything.

    Sac fly
    Sac bunt
Hit the ball to the right side of the infield with runners on 1st and 2nd, I guess otherwise known as moving runners.
Hit with runners in scoring position
I think PFF's batting average is fair at .280+
    I think a OBP of .340 - .350 is fair
I think 15-18 HR's is productive, I don't think you need 25-30 to be called productive.

On the defensive side, I don't think you need to play G.G. defense, but average, enough where you're costing your team games. I think less than 10-12 errors is acceptable, or maybe I'm high balling that one.

You don't have to have a ton of HR's.........but you better be a huge RBI guy then........otherwise wheres the production......why don't you add what you think the RBI totals should be at 15-18 HR's

Re: What is Productive for a player?

I always put my opinion down!! When have I not? That's what all you guys cry about is my opinions. Sorry but you are going to get over the Blum shit!

A productive second baseman to me is someone who can hit .280+, an OBP of .360+ with some speed and can play his position above average. He make all the plays and has a great arm to turn the DP. RBI depends on where he hits in the lineup so that would be tricky. I would like my second baseman to hit close to 20 HRs but not necessary to hit that many. He works the count and knows how to take a walk. This is what I would consider "productive", not anything on the level of Alomar, Sandberg or even Kent. The more I think about it, "productive" sounds like "average".

I don't think you need to hit the 100 RBI mark to be called productive. I think 90-95 is fair.

As for Reefer's last point, I think we're confusing "productive" with All-Star caliber. I think you can be an average player and still be productive.

Re: What is Productive for a player?

"productive" is what they all should be...........it is very average..........

when you start out producing the avg. you've got something special.........

when you start out producing those guys, you have an allstar.

Roberto Alomar would be my ideal second baseman.
