Why do you think I've been saying what a terrible idea Jenkins is.......I've said this exact thing so many times in here its making me crazy......I don't get why people want him here...........
JENKIN'S IS GOING TO START FOR A LONG TIME for this team........is that what anyone wants ??? If so, yer nuts
Re: 2008 off season thread
I know you and I have had conversations away from this forum about Jenkins and we disagree on whether he should be here or not. I wouldn't mind having him here, that's just the way I feel about it.

Not me........if his name were John Smith he'd hold zero interest for anyone.......he's nothing more than a AAAA player or 4th OFer on a team with an avg. OF ....

So you want Jenkins starting for us for at least a month of the season ? Probably more ???
Re: 2008 off season thread
If it's in left field, I don't see how that's such a bad idea until Giles comes back. I know you won't agree, but I don't think he'll be that bad to hold down the fort for 1 month. This team starts slow in April anyway, regardless of who's in the outfield. I think Jenkins would help this team more than hurt them.
Did anyone read the Chargers rumor I posted on that thread? And how come HWood is chiming in to this discussion, is he offline?
Re: 2008 off season thread
I don't want Jenkins in the outfield, he's old, washed up, and a left handed hitter who's power will be suppressed by PetCo
I wasn't chiming in because I was busy playing Guitar Hero 3
Re: 2008 off season thread
Careful with that game, that's what got Zumaya injured....that was a hilarious story.
I guess I'm alone on the Jenkins front. I'm not looking for him to pop 20-25 HR's, I just think he'll help this offense by driving in runs, which was something this team struggled with the last few seasons.

And when Giles is back and replaces him......what exactly will that do for this offense ? The defense ? Power production ? etc ??

Which of his past 3 years RBI stats would make you think he can still "drive in" runs ? And since he's never had a 100 RBI season ever, what leads you to come up with the idea that he'll suddenly transform into an RBI machine here ?
Re: 2008 off season thread
The past 3 seasons, his at bats have gone way down, so that would explain why he hasn't hit the 100 RBI mark. I never said he was going to be an RBI machine, I simply said he would be productive in this offense and be able to drive in runs. In the 3 seasons he's gotten 500+ at bats, he's shown that he's productive.
Re: 2008 off season thread
First the last 3 seasons haven't seen his AB's necessarily decline....... they are three seasons that have seen more AB's than 4 of his 10 seasons......he's only seen 500 AB's 3x's and 600 once......otherwise 400+ is a GREAT # of AB's for Jenkins.......
He's never hit the 100 RBI mark....and the last few years he's had as many AB's as a ton of guys.......
Even if he'd had 600 AB's last year his #'s project to 92 RBI......and that's in a hitters park......come on man........lets be real about this please.......Only two players for us last year had 600 AB's......
Oh and FYI only 5 guys on our roster last year had more AB's than Jenkins.....so he had plenty and just didn't DO much......IN A HITTERS PARK !!!
By the way.....what on earth makes you think Jenkins could / would get 600 AB's ?
Re: 2008 off season thread
His AB's didn't necessarily decline?
2004 - 617
2005 - 538 (-89)
2006 - 484 (-54)
2007 - 420 (-64)
Total: -197 AB's over the last 4 seasons, I would say that's a decline. And why is 100 RBI's the benchmark? 90+ RBI's isn't good production in this offense?
Look, I know you and HWood disagree on having Jenkins, I just think he adds to this roster. Just the way I feel about it....
Re: 2008 off season thread
No....it's not necessarily a decline......IMO it's more of a correction....the abberation was the 600 AB's and really the 500+ AB's........again.....400+ for Jenkins is a great season if you look at his stats.......500+ is rare and 600 only happened once.......
Hell yes 92 RBI is good......but in a hitters park it's not great, and he wouldn't sniff 92, because there is no reason to think he'd sniff 600 AB's again.......sheesh
Re: 2008 off season thread
A correction? I've never heard it put that way, I'll give you points for being creative.
We'll agree to disagree, but I guess we'll find out if he even joins the team as the months go on prior to Spring Training.
Re: 2008 off season thread
Did he have more 500+ AB seasons or fewer throughout his career ?
