He's still getting interest from other teams, I highly doubt he accepts arbitration from the Padres.

I know he was getting interest from the Nationals and he was interested in playing there. So I think he may end up there. The team that we all thought he was headed to, Atlanta, is no longer interested.

Nationals are interested in Dukes from TB which would be cheaper but possibly a bigger headache than Cameron missing the first month. Dukes got into a lot of trouble last season. If Mike does get a contract, Pads is right that it should be prorated.

I think the Padres are going to look elsewhere for a CF'er, one that will actually be there on Opening Day.

I haven't heard an update on Mark Prior either. I know we probably won't hear anything on him until the deadline to offer arbitration comes up in early December. I'm curious about Clement and Jenkins though, as far as IF they've offered deals to either player.

Jenkins.......

If our 2008 OF starts the year looking like Jenkins, Cameron, Hairston........we're going to lose so much ground in April that we may never recover........that's one terrible OF

The more I think about Jenkins, the more I think he's going to be in a platoon role next season. I don't think he'll be an every day starter.

The reason I was asking was, I hear that they WILL offer him a deal and that they HAVE offered a deal. I'm curious which one is it?

If we get Jenkins........you better get used to the idea that he'll start EVERYDAY for at least a month........

If we sign Cameron.......he's gone until May......and Giles is gone til May.........that means that who we have on our bench will be STARTING the first month of the season.........maybe longer

I forgot about Giles being out for the first month. That has to be give the Padres' front office that much more of a reason to go hard after Rowand. If he's asking for 6 years $84M, I can't see how the Padres would go that far, but they may be able to get a 5-year $60M deal.

I'm still interested in Tony Gwynn Jr. myself. I think he'd be a good young player for the Padres for a long time to come. I would definetely talk to the Brewers about what it would take to get him.
