Agent Mike Nicotera said free agent Mike Cameron would likely decline the Padres' forthcoming arbitration offer.
Nicotera indicated that he still sees Cameron getting a multiyear deal. The Rangers are believed to be interested.

The Padres are attempting to sign Japanese reliever Kazuo Fukumori.
The Rays were also interested in Fukumori, but perhaps that's changed with them deep into talks with Troy Percival and seemingly about to land Juan Rincon. Fukumori, 31, is coming off a poor year in Japan (4.75 ERA). He might get the same kind of deal Yasuhiko Yabuta did.
    Eh.

Steroids boy Terrmel Sledge isn't returning.

Terrmel Sledge is taking a two-year, $2.85 million contract to play in Japan with the Nippon Ham Fighters.
That's a lot better than he would have done in the U.S. Sledge was kept on the Padres' 40-man roster after hitting .210/.310/.360 in 200 at-bats last season, but he didn't seem to be in their plans for 2008.

According to the Denver Post, the Rockies don't like their chances of signing Mark Loretta because they believe that "he will end up with the Yankees."
Loretta could potentially start at second base for the Rockies, whereas he'd be a utility man for the Yankees unless Robinson Cano is traded.
Chris Gomez looks better and better.

The Padres have talked to the Cubs about a trade for Mark Prior.
The Cubs have reportedly been asking about second baseman Rayner Contreras, left-hander Wade Leblanc and outfielder Chad Huffman. Prior lives in San Diego and would like to pitch for the Padres, so the team figures it wouldn't be difficult to get him signed if it controlled his rights.
    Looks like there's fire.

I'm officially done with Prior. Forget that guy. I'd rather have Carl Pavano.

Sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the Padres and Randy Wolf are close to agreeing to a one-year deal.
There'd be no better place for Wolf, a flyball pitcher, to rebuild his value than Petco. He's apparently picking San Diego over a return to Philadelphia. The Padres will likely continue to pursue Mark Prior and Matt Clement even after landing Wolf.
    He's injury prone as well.

I'm not too thrilled about Randy Wolf, but at least he's more promising than Mark freaking Prior.

I think Prior is going to shock a lot of people next season. I think he'll come out 100% healthy and be a great addition to the rotation.
