Because the Giants learned their lesson from last year with Roberts, Klesko and worse Bochy.

As for rival executives saying stuff about Prior, of course they would say that. Rival clubs will say anything. Cubs have til Dec. 12 to keep him in a Cubs unifrom.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Geoff Jenkins and the Padres met Tuesday for "several hours."
The Padres have been linked to Jenkins since the offseason began and Jenkins indicated earlier this month that he'd like to play in San Diego. Petco Park would kill his numbers, but Jenkins would be a decent fit on a one- or two-year deal.
A decent fit? The only way he fits in is with the high amount of strike outs. For the Padres sake they best not do this deal especially a two tear deal.

    Chase Headley-3B-PadresNov. 28 - 1:06 pm et
CBS Sportsline's Scott Miller reports that the Pirates and Padres are discussing a trade that would bring Xavier Nady and Nate McLouth to San Diego for prospect Chase Headley.
The Padres likely could have had Coco Crisp for Headley before Mike Lowell re-signed with Boston, but they weren't interested. This looks like a worse deal for them. Nady, who was originally drafted by San Diego, is only a real asset against left-handers, and McLouth wouldn't be much of an option in center field at Petco. If the Pirates picked up Headley, it'd likely be with the idea of turning him into an outfielder. Neil Walker is the future at third base in Pittsburgh.

If that's the best we can get for Headley I'd much rather just hold on to him.

Its a terrible idea.........two bla players for a guy who is best IF prospect since KG, who we control for 6 years, who is already a better OFer than Nady, who will likely be a better hitter than Nady, who will be here 4 years after Nady hits FA in 2..........even if you toss in a bla CFer it's a terrible idea

    Re: 2008 off season thread

The Cardinals have not tendered an offer to Eckstein's agent, Ryan Gleichowski. The New York Mets briefly courted Eckstein as a second baseman before re-signing Luis Castillo to a four-year, $25 million deal. The San Diego Padres expressed interest in trading for Eckstein last July and may make another push at him as a free agent. They, too, envision Eckstein as a second baseman opposite shortstop Khalil Greene.
This not a rumor but just a suggestion by a writer in STL. Didn't know the Pads looked at Eck last year but if he would accept a one year deal, I could see this happening. He might sign a one year deal to show people he can play second and extend his career after that. He would be a good lead off guy with Giles hitting second or vice versa.

I don't know how trustworthy this site is, but it's reporting that the Padres have made a 2-year offer with an option for a 3rd, to Geoff Jenkins. The offer is reported to be in the $16M - $20M range.
