    Padres Padres are rumored to.........

make an offer to ex-Milwaukee Brewers, Geoff Jenkins. I wont mind seeing him play for the Padres. He is a California native and I really think he could help your offense.

I will really miss Jenkins as a Brewer. He is a good teammate and guy to have around in the clubhouse.

I couldn't agree more brewers....as much as PFF and I disagree on him, I wouldn't mind having him.

No sweat....as far as I'm concerned on Jenkins, if they can sign him to a deal that isn't ludicrious, than I would love to him in the lineup. He can still swing a big bat and, I think (I know you don't agree PFF) he would give this offense a boost.

    Again, just my opinion.

Padres also rumored to have interest in Matt Clement and Mark Prior as well.

That's been reported for the past week and a half, maybe more. I think they'll sign Clement, but getting Prior is going to be a little tougher. I can't imagine that the Cubs will let him go easily, though I think they'll eventually get something done.

Yes adding an aging lefty OFer to Petco who is coming from a hitters park, is a great idea.........guess people haven't been paying attention the last few years what happens to the majority of lefty power here........especially the power of players who are entering the backside of their careers.......

I've never said I don't like Jenkins the guy........just that he's the next coming of Brian Giles here......And Jenkins couldn't sniff Giles #'s prior to Giles arrival.

I think anyone could sniff Giles' numbers playing in the Pirates' band box. I think adding Jenkins behind guys like Giles, Kouz and Adrian would give this team a pretty good 1-4 in their lineup.

Give Nady a call and ask him ........

And this is starting to sound like a hate on Jenkins role, which isn't the case......I like Jenkins and I like Jenkins the player.......just not here......and not at his age.........and because he's a lefty especially.......

I doubt highly he would supply the kind of threat in our lineup that you perceive him too.........I highly doubt opposing teams will fear him at all here.......

Now Jenkins in Pitt makes great sense..........that's a good fit

I didn't say Jenkins was going to be a huge threat, I think he compliments the guys in front of him though. You put him in the 5 hole behind Giles, Ant/LO/Blum, Kouz and Adrian, it actually forces teams to pitch to Adrian instead of around him.

I'd pitch around AGon if all I had to face was a punch and judy hitter like Jenkins will be in Petco.......in fact it makes the decision to pitch to AGon easy........he'd never see a pitch

    Re: Padres are rumored to.........

Let me put some facts in front of everyone on Geoff Jenkins.

From 2005 to 2007, Jenkins at bats have decreased because he was put into a platoon situation with Kevin Mench over the past 2 seasons.

    2005 - 538 AB's 25 HR's 86 RBI's .292 BA .375 OBP

    2006 - 484 AB's 17 HR's 70 RBI's .271 BA .357 OBP

    2007 - 420 AB's 21 HR's 64 RBI's .255 BA .319 OBP

As you can see, as his AB's have decreased, so has his batting average and on base percentage, which could be understood. Now, that being said, from 2006 to 2007, his HR's went up in 64 fewer AB's.

Here's an interesting comparison between Mike Cameron and Geoff Jenkins in seasons with their highest number of AB's.

    Mike Cameron

    2007 - 571 AB's 21 HR's 78 RBI's .242 BA .328 OBP

    Geoff Jenkins

    2005 - 538 AB's 25 HR's 86 RBI's .292 BA .375 OBP

So, in 33 fewer AB's, Jenkins had 4 more HR's, 8 more RBI's and a better batting average and on base percentage. My point is, PFF calling Jenkins a "punch and judy hitter" is, I think, a little unfair. He's never had more than 540 AB's and if you give him 600+ AB's, I think he'll be very productive. I'm not saying he's going to give you 30+ HR's, but I think he'll give you a little more production.

good job FmrFresnan! Plus Jenkins is still a better than average outfileder with a better than average arm. He has played both corner outfield positions, but is more comfortable in LF. He still had one of the better arms in the Brewers OF.

    Re: Padres are rumored to.........

Ok, I need to correct myself when I said he's never had more than 540 AB's....in 2004 with the Brewers he had 617 AB's, during that year he hit 27 HR's and drove in 93....3 HR's and 7 RBI's short of Adrian's numbers this past season in 29 fewer AB's.

Uh.....johnny raincloud and voice of reason here .........

Jenkins did it in a hitters park......see Giles, who posted far better #'s before arriving than Jenkins could ever dream of, to find out what happens to aging lefties when they arrive in a real ballpark......

Also.......Cameron did it in a pitchers park.......go apply ballpark factors and see what you come up with for #'s between those two guys....

And nobody is comparing those two guys, since neither should be here next year if at all possible.......
