Brian has been in this business a long time and Marcus flat out sucked dick. Brian knows it was a business decision and the right one at that. If they traded Giles, and hole would be filled in the rotation or somewhere else.

    True.

But they'd be creating a hole while filling another.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be all for it if the player they traded him for made it worth it, but the number of proverbial holes would remain the same.

If they do plan on filling LF and CF with two players not named Scott Hairston, however, I'm all for trading B. Giles and putting Hairston in RF, though...if they can get a fair deal, of course.

The only time I'm ever for trading someone just for the sake of trading them is if it's a multi-million dollar overpaid bench player (like Klesko became) and in those cases you'll never be able to get a trade off unless it's for someone else's overpaid garbage, making clamoring for those trades also a pointless endeavor.

He got injured one too many times for my liking.

I've always maintained that I'd be leery of a long term deal for him, and that opinion was only strengthened every time he got injured, but he was a definite asset to the team while he was on the field.

And he cost us a AAA relief pitcher.

When we paid MB about 100k and it only cost us Brown.........he was worth it and loved.........but he's far too much of a risk to sign to a multi year multi million dollar deal for me.......

Small base w/ incentives I might have to consider, but I'd imagine someone out there is going to overpay him........hopefully it's not us........especially if he's really not going to be ready until May at best.........we have that in Giles already

Jenkins could have a big year for the Padres. Remember that he is a California biy and he could feel rejuventaed and relaxed and have a huge year. He was sort of Yost's odd man out the past couple of years, IMO.

Just something for you to ponder Padres' fans.

    Not exactly.

I doubt they sign him for half the contract Brian has right now, thus it wouldn't be quite the same.

Not that he'd be my first choice.

    Re: Marcus Giles gone

He's going to make close to what we signed Giles for.........he'll be older than Giles was when we brought him here........he's coming from a hitters park to a park that kills guys starting the backside of their careers.........my god man......it's like staring at the Brian Giles trade all over again.........

I agree with PFF, if you want an aging veteran, keep the ones you have, at least they already know the system and the park. If you are going to make a trade make it for a younger up and coming... No to Jenkins.

    Re: Marcus Giles gone

I'll start off my post by reiterating that Jenkins is far from my first choice and I agree with your concern about him being old and going to PetCo to hit.

That being said, it's hardly comparable to the Brian Giles trade. We wouldn't be giving up Jason Bay and Oliver Perez for him.

I was kidding about Jenkins for you guys but he will not get close to what Giles makes and can hit for far more power.

He'll get close to what Giles made his first year here..........and here his power would disappear also
