    Offseason Farm Updates

Figured we should have a seperate thread for this type of stuff so it doesn't get lost in the rumor thread........anyway.......saw this on another site and it's a very promising thing to see.....

Inman and Peavy both pitched most of the 20th year in A+.

    Player - Innings - ERA
    Inman -78.2 1.72 (2007)
    Peavy - 105 - 3.09 (2001)

Inman had a much better A+ stint in his 20th year.

Peavy only pitched 28 innings in AA at 20 and did better than he did at 21 in the same league. So any comparisons of AA at 20 is unfair, since Peavy had a small sample size.

In his 21st year Peavy pitched 80 innings with a 2.80 ERA in AA. Next year we should get some numbers from Inman to compare.

I am not saying he will be another Peavy. No one playing right now is (at least this year), but Inman has had numbers of an future MLB all-star.

Minor league A+ pitcher of the year.

Yordany Rameriz was signed by the Astros...........arguably our best defensive CFer, who finally started hitting last year at AAA, was a 6 year FA and the Padres allowed him to go........ugh

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

I have a question as far as Antonelli goes. If they wanted him to win the job outright and they thought he was ready for the big leagues, why would they be interested in Tad Iguchi or Luis Castillo? Does that mean they want legit competition for Antonelli or have they changed their mind about him being ready?

Because it is smart to have a capable person to start at second in case Antonelli isn't ready for the Majors. He has only played in AA ball so no one knows for sure if he's ready. If Antonelli is in fact ready, you can keep whomever or trade them.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

I agree that LO is the better option than a more expensive signing with Iguchi and Castillo. If you sign Iguchi or Castillo, you have to let them know that they have to compete with Antonelli, I don't think they'd sign knowning they have to compete for the job instead of being THE GUY next season.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Iguchi is a terrible sign IMO........I think we'd be better off going with someone currently on the team such as Stansberry.......save and use that money elsewhere if in fact he's the guy.......

Castillo brings a solid OBP and some pop along with the potential for a very good year.........but he'll be the most expensive, and I'd be shocked if he took a one year deal.........

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

I doubt Castillo takes a 1-year deal either. I'm surprised the Mets are re-signing him instead of going after Eckstein.

Don't get me wrong, I want Antonelli to be the guy, I do, but having a guy like a Loretta giving him a legit challenge as well as a guy Ant can learn from would be like Peavy, CY, Hensley and Cassell learning from Maddux.

Castillo is better than Eckstein and the Astros are looking hard into Castillo. The Mets would be silly to give a three year deal to Eck over Castillo.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

The Astros are on the verge of signing Geoff Blum and according to the email conversation I had with the columnist from the Houston Chronicle, he seems to think Blum is going to get the every day look at 2nd.

Blum is not an everyday starter though and hasn't been thought of one in a long, long time.

We knew this already didn't we ?? Or was it on the thread that got deleted

This is WHY Lo is available and realistic

    Astros Sign Geoff Blum

The Astros have reached an agreement with Geoff Blum, according to MLB Rumors Correspondent Steve Wilson. The deal is between one and two years, and he will probably be suited as a back up. He stated his interest to come back to the club so it is no surprise that this deal gets done as teams prepare for the big spending after Thanksgiving. Blum won a World Series with the White Sox in 2005 and played for the Astros is 2002 and 2003.
