    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Wait, he said Blum wasn't going to be the every day guy, where did you see that in that email? All he said was "Loretta is a better player, but Blum was a cheaper option". I did read the part where he said "Loretta wants a starting job", but maybe they wanted a cheaper option to start at 2nd, which Blum would be. He wouldn't command as much as Loretta.

Oh, and as far as my "sources" being wrong, so what, they're just opinions, not facts. Not even ESPN gets it right all the time.

Wait, he said Blum was going to be the everyday starter in that email? No, he didn't. I took as it saying Loretta wants a starting job meaning they didn't view him as a starter and didn't want to pay that much for a bench guy so Blum would be the cheaper option FOR THE BENCH. That makes a lot more sense than what you are suggesting, Blum replacing Biggio as the everyday second baseman.

Sources bring facts, not opinions. Everyone has opinions. If that were the case, Peter Gammons and Buster Olney wouldn't have jobs.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Come on Reefer, you can't tell me that there hasn't been one time that Buster Olney and Peter Gammons have given opinions instead of facts, I know you don't honestly believe that. Everyone in sports has opinions, watch Baseball Tonight, Kruk is full of opinions....and other things I won't get into.

Brian didn't say either way, so I think either of us could be reading more into that than what it is, just a thought. At this point of the offseason, there aren't really facts being thrown out just yet until players start being signed by the respective teams.

This is one offseason that I'm really going to enjoy, I think it's going to be really interesting as the months go on. I don't think I've seen this many Japanese players mentioned before, at least not that I remember.

I don't think he said they don't have opinions, I think he simply defined what a source is.

If all your source is bringing you is opinions you have a pretty crummy source.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

He's just a columnist that covers the Astros and was answering a question about Blum being signed by the Astros. I didn't specifically ask him if Blum would be starting. All that any "source" has at this point is opinions until a player is officially signed. How about the "soures" that were reporting that Torrealba had signed with the Mets?

It's hard for a "source" to be right about something that even the team he got his info from didn't even know at the time.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

I just sent him another email and specifically asked him if Blum will be the starter next year, and if not, who do they have there for next season.

No source can tell you that with any kind of certainty right now, not even if your source was Cecil Cooper or Ed Wade.

So sources do have opinions, I thought they only came with facts?

Doesn't matter, I'm curious to his answer anyway.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

The Torrealba deal fell through but it wasn't an opinion, it was fact. That deal was in place and the Mets took it back. It wasn't an opinion. Gammons and Olney have their own opinions, not those of their sources. Journalist have opinions this time of year, not sources which are people on the inside. Don't confuse the two. You are suggesting Blum will replace Biggio which isn't feasible. I am saying Blum would make a cheaper replacement than Loretta for a bench role.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Blum has agreed to a deal with Houston, should be announced soon...

"Wade also reached an agreement with Geoff Blum. Mark Berman broke the story on Fox 26"

SportsJustice: Ed Wade isn't shy about pulling the trigger. Astros get Blum.

    Re: Offseason Farm Updates

Look.........Blum wont see 600 AB's unless you add two seasons together.......he's not a starter, and nobody views him as one.........Not one single person has suggested he's not a good bench role player, in fact quite the opposite.........only one person thinks he's got what it takes to start, even though a careers worth of #'s suggest otherwise.......If you want to honk Blum's horn, go for it........but he is what he is....... a .250 hitting punch and judy bench player.....

Hey, I've got no problem being the lone wolf on this one. I think Blum can do some good things if he gets the chance to be an every day guy. Maybe he is being signed as a role player, that could be, I know he'll do really well back in Houston.

Not that I disagree with your general argument, but Blum can also play short stop, so he wouldn't necessarily have to supplant Biggio.

you're allowed to keep this dream...........but just help the rest of us to understand HOW you're coming to this conclusion.........that would be nice..........

At least with say the Branyan debate, you can project #'s and come up with at the very least an arguement........with Blum you can't........so how are you coming to this conclusion ?
