Wow, my bad, I was way off. If they put in a bid lower than $4M, how much are they willing to bid on Fukedome?

    Re: 2008 Payroll

Fukudome will probably command a similar bid to Iwamura, IMO. They're similar players. And it would just be cool to have a player named "Fukudome". I'd get myself a jersey instantly.

They had Kouzmanoff on the roster, who they had just traded Josh Barfield for, when the bids were going out for Iwamura.

In short, they have a bigger need for Fuck-You-Dome than they did for Aki v2.0, so I'm willing to bet they put in a bigger bid than they did for Iwamura.

Whether or not it'll be big enough to win the negotiating rights, I obviously don't know, but I'm willing to bet it'd be bigger than Iwa, none-the-less.

Iwamura also played 2nd base.....which is where they'd talked about him playing ...... don't forget that part.......

Having said that......I agree with the rest......

    My jersey will say K-Fuk

Does Nick Hundley get the backup catcher's job for next season or is there a free agent out there that you'd rather have?

    Re: 2008 Payroll

Good question........I'm on the fence about a back up catcher right now......I'm not sure we're going to have much left to spend on a catcher, and I think it's a position that we can be weaker at and get away with it.......

promoting from within is a good idea.......unless someone falls in our lap.....maybe a trade ?

I give Nick Hundley the opportunity to show he can handle the back-up job to Bard before I talk about a trade.

    Re: 2008 Payroll

depends on who is out there and gettable...........if there is another Salty out there being blocked.......I'm for a trade........I had high hopes we'd try to take him off the Braves hands with Linebrink.........but oh well........

Freese could be a slugging catcher in a year or so, but he's likely going to start the year in AAA, playing 3rd, 1st and Catcher and maybe corner OF.......he's being turned into a super utility guy which might get him up with the big league club faster........not sure if he's going to be ready to come up until 09

Colt Morton is another option........he got a taste during the playoff run.......he's a big strong kid who might be on the verge of putting it all together.......but those could also just be high hopes

I'd have some interest in Lo Duca, but I don't think he'd want to split time with Bard, I think he'd want to be the full time guy.

LoDuca will probably make 2-3x's more than we're looking to pay a back up or platoon guy.......if not, snag him

According to Coach, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada will test the free agent market. Anyone interested in either guy?

Mariano and Trevor on the same team?

I wouldn't do it on the grounds of having better areas to address with the money he'd command, though.
