"Apparently, I don't fit into the Padres' priorities," Blum said. Blum previously played for the Astros in 2002 and 2003.

Stansberry gets his shot finally ?? Stansberry at league minimum might be a better value than Blum anyway........time will tell
Depends on who wins the second base job. Is letting Stansberry/Antonelli sit the bench worth it? If it comes down to Robles, Padres will have the find a better bench guy.
Antonelli wont sit on the bench........he'll either win the position outright and start........or play fulltime in Portland.........Stansberry wont start fulltime for the Padres......ain't gonna happen
Why? You just can't say he won't.
KT and SA don't view him as a starter.......and barely as a bench role player.........that's why.........they've both said as much outloud in interviews thoughout last year.......I doubt things have changed in their thoughts about him as a starter.......but since Blum wants a multi year deal maybe their thoughts have changes about him on the bench as a role player
He is still going to compete for the job in ST and has more experience than Antonelli. Antonelli is not a sure thing so for now it is Antonelli's and Stansberry's to lose.

On Geoff Jenkins, it used to the say the Padres WILL offer him a 1 year deal, this is the first time I've seen it worded as "The Padres HAVE offered him a 1 year deal".
Corey Patterson, CF--Baltimore Orioles: Padres and Nationals interested.

Luis Castillo, 2B--New York Mets: The Mets are interested in re-signing him, but have yet to made an offer. Castillo hopes to return as well. The Astros are preparing to make him a very strong offer. The Indians, Padres and Dodgers consider him to be fallback option. He is seeking a 4-year deal.

Here's another bit I found interesting....
The Padres may offer Andruw Jones a one-year, $17MM deal. However Scott Boras is still acting like Jones' 2007 didn't happen.

I heard the Edmonds rumor on the way home today.......vomit
Blum wants a multi-year deal......Padres aren't interested in that.......sad
Colon..........huh........wha........we have the money for him and 2 quality OFers ? not likely
Kemp........HELL YES PLEASE.........
Jenkins........I think we all know where I stand on this mess waiting to happen
Patterson is the kind of guy that I could see having success in a spacious Petco's OF.......but that's a long shot, but a KT move for sure.......I could see us taking a chance on him......
Castillo I believe is down the list for 2bags, as he'd probably be the most expensive........no thanks
If this were Jim Edmonds of, say, 3-4 years ago, I would be a little more excited. But just coming off a season where he spent a lot of time on the DL, I'm not sure that's the answer. Though, Jimmy can still play CF with the best of them.

Though we knew the Padres could and probably will add Matt Clement, there was a good article from Corey Brock on him. Notice as well, that Brock mentions 2 other names towards the end...Mark Prior and Bartolo Colon.

Don't forget........if you mention someone in any capacity........that is the same thing to a few as the Padres saying they are going hard after him, or that they want to sign him......
