Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
How about adding Mark Prior to the rotation next season? Thoughts?
Fill out the rotation. Mark Prior, Matt Clement, Brett Tomko and Josh Towers are candidates to join Jake Peavy, Chris Young and Greg Maddux.

Add Mark Prior to our DL?
Not sure if that's a wise move.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
Prior outside Chicago.........would the hex be lifted and could he pitch a full season ? What's the cost for him ? Would an incentive contract be possible with him ? If so, I might take that chance that Balsey can un**** him, and Petco could resurrect some sort of career for him.............
MAYBE.......
I think I'd be more inclined to look at Glavine to join Maddux on a farewell tour though.........Glavine as a #4, in Petco might work well for a year
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
If Headley is ML ready, as Fuson suggests, and shows it during ST in March, then I suggest asking Kouz if he'd be open to moving to left field, opening 3B for Headley. I'm not trading Kouz, under any circumstance. He's going to be a star for this franchise for years to come. You have to blow me away for me to even consider it, but I'm still not taking any offers on Kouz.

This brings up an excellent point. Why not put Kouz in LF and if he is ML ready put Headley at third and spend money saved on Hunter?

He might be the next Scott Rolen, he might not. Bay should be traded for a proven player like a Kouz plus other pieces and make Kouz an OFer.
I think Headley has shown quite a bit during his time with the Padres. He was called up from AA while Kouz was on the DL and did very well I thought. So I think he's proven he can hold his own if he's given a shot during ST, which I think he will.

The Yankees will price us right out of the Torii Hunter sweepstakes. I'm after Rowand.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
Bay discussion moved to the already existent Jason Bay thread.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
18 games at the ML isn't really enough proof but if you were impressed by something I can't take that away from you.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
I don't know if you saw any of the games that Headley played in while Kouz was out, but he was very good on both sides. He was called up and made the start in Chicago against the Cubs that same day and did very well. If you come out in March and watch this kid, you'll have the same opinion, I promise you that.
Speaking of which, HWood, are you coming out for ST? I know PFF and I are already planning on being there, but haven't figured out the days yet.

I don't see the Yankees needing Hunter do you? They have Cabrera who has done a great job and they starting winning games when he started playing CF. Rowand would be the best bet for you guys but really can't see the Phillies letting him go after the amazing season he had and the Phillies East title. Rowand is loved in Philly. Both prices will be high no doubt.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
Yay here's the thing you told me yesterday but didn't. No one argued him being ML ready with me. YAY!!! We have moved on if you care.

If your George Steinbrenner and you had the option of keeping Cabrera in Center Field or signing Torii Hunter to play CF and moving Cabrera to left, which would you do? I don't think they're bringing Damon back, I know they were looking to deal him before the deadline in July.
As for Rowand, he's already said that he wouldn't mind a return to Chicago (White Sox) and there have been no contract talks with Philadelphia. I know the Phillies have however many days, after the World Series, to talk to Rowand and his agent about coming back, but I don't think he will be to be honest. Plus, they have that young kid coming up, I don't remember his name, who can take that position next season.
Re: 2008 Ideas / rumors / trades
If I were Steinbrenner, I would save my money and get some ****ing pitching. They need it badly. I'd also try and keep Arod in town. Cabrera, Damon, Matsui and Abreu should be enough for that OF. I have heard that about Rowand and can't believe. White Sox weren't very kind to him. Everyone including my Giants will drive up the price for Hunter and Rowand. I think we have all forgotten about Jones:laugh:

And I seriously doubt the first thing the new GM does is get rid of their best player for Chase Headley who is not Major League ready.
