Sign LO now that Mack is gone.........that along with Blum and Ant would handle 2nd base for a few years.......done !! And you could likely sign both LO and Blum for what Mack was making

IF and ONLY IF Jenkins signs for less than 3m is he worth having here.......what a huge disappointment he'd be in an offseason where we could potentially go get some real talent not on the back end of their careers.....

This team hasn't been in this financial situation ever.......their own ballpark and minus any crippling long term bad contracts.......screw this idea of going to get an aging lefty whose power will totally disappear here...... AGAIN.......

I don't remember anyone saying what Loretta was going to get. I don't think the Padres can spend more than $3M-$4M on Loretta. I think if they offer a 2-year deal for $2M/year is fair, maybe with incentives will take it to almost $3M.

It sound as if Blum may end up in LA, though I would HATE to see that. I think if Blum ends up a Dodger, there's no question they have to bring in LO. It gives Antonelli good competetion against a guy who knows this team and knows the ballpark. Ant needs to prove he's the guy to start for the Padres next season and snatch the job, not just expect it to be handed to him.

Let's not forget, as well, Schilling has the Padres on his list, though I don't think San Diego is where he'll end up, but I'd love to have him if they can get him signed.

It appears free-agent Matt Clement, formerly of the Boston Red Sox, wants to return to the San Diego Padres and would take a low base salary as part of a one-year deal laced with incentives according to the Union-Tribune.

Clement had surgery to repair his labrum and rotator cuff in September 2006.

Another right-hander on the comeback trail from shoulder surgery, Cubs pitcher Mark Prior, is rumored to have the Padres on his radar.

Padres expected to make offer to Geoff Jenkins


The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the San Diego Padres likely will make an offer to free-agent Geoff Jenkins, a left-handed hitter phased out by the Milwaukee Brewers' youth movement.

San Diego GM Kevin Towers, who tried to trade for Jenkins last offseason, said he wants a corner outfielder who bats left-handed.

With Stoneman gone, Padres-Angels may deal

Now that Bill Stoneman, who was never know as much of a wheeler-dealer, out of the front office, it appears the San Diego Padres and Anaheim Angels could talk about making a deal.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the Padres could try to get Anaheim outfielders Reggie Willits and Nathan Haynes. Willits has almost no power, but he had a .391 on-base percentage last year. The strong relationship between Padres manager Bud Black and Angels manager Mike Scioscia increases the chances the two franchises could strike a deal.
