Another big game meltdown by Peavy and Hoffman but still a great game. Back and forth game and this is what its all about. Tough game.

The sports gods must hate me.

I'm at work fully expecting to miss the entire game, but I'm texting to google to see scores, each time realizing how close the game is.

It gets to extras and nobody scores.

I then realize I might see the end of the game as I start home and it says the 13th.

I get home, turn the TV on, and see Trevor starting to pitch and an 8-6 score.

The rest is history, I suppose.

Holliday definitely never touched the bag, but then again, with the way Hoffman was pitching, he was giving up the game later anyways.

Not exactly a good throw from Giles. As soon as it left his hand I knew he was safe.

But that was one heck of an effort by Giles, he put his whole body into that play and he deserves credit.

Yeah the sad thing about it though is he wasnt safe he was out. That one will go down as an all time biggest missed call. I think the Ump just wanted to go home.

He's never had the most accurate arm.

I knew the game was over once I saw it in his glove.

It was accurate. Problem was it was a freaking rainbow and it short hopped the catcher. Once the ump saw the catcher didn't make the catch, he made the call.

THis is just so brutal. 3 games to clinch the wild card outright and they fail each time.

Barrett's foot was definately in contact or in front of the plate.
Holliday's hand definately made contact with either Barret's foot and/or part of the plate.

According to the rules, a player may not block a base/plate impeding the runners path without the ball. Holliday was impeded, as was his hand.

As long as the fielder is holding the ball, he can block the base/plate however he likes to make the play.

Barrett never had control of the ball.

Someone said that on another board.

Thats all fine and dandy but we see that play at the plate all the freaking time. Big collision, catcher doesnt have the ball initially, he then gets it tags the runner he's out. It just went against us this time.

Actually, the Catcher can block the plate with the ball in his possession, OR, while "in the act of fielding" the ball.Which Barrett obviously was!
