    We need the "S" though
Gotta expand our lead over the Dodgers before we play them.....
Also, the Phils have Utley and Hamels back.......we need to win every series the rest of the way!

Sure why not sweep, although I think MrP may have it right this series but we always seem to do well against Francis and Maddux is just En Fuego lately. It will all depend upon whether Bradley and the rest of the bats show up or not.

Elmer Fudd shouldn't be playing MLB. The Pads will rock him. You guys do well against Francis. And Fogg is bound for one of his horrible games. The Rockies would be lucky to win one.

The only thing that scares me about it all is even if we score 10 runs on each of those pitchers, there is nothing to say that their young stud batters dont rip 11 off on our pitchers, especially in Denver.

DO NOT PITCH TO HOLLIDAY WITH RUNNERS ON BASE!!
    i'll say it again...
DO NOT PITCH TO HOLLIDAY WITH RUNNERS ON BASE!

if he beats us I'll be pissed.
They have other hitters who can beat you...but if there's one guy you can't let do it...it's Holliday.
    It happened last series!

    Re: Padres@Rockies 9/7/07-9/9/07

You don't pitch around a guy everytime there's runners on base just because he's their best hitter.....you just don't.

    That's not smart baseball.

Pitching around a guy is a strategy move that should be used when the situation calls for it. And their best hitter up with runners on base isn't always that situation.

That's not to say you treat him lightly, though, I just scoff at the accusations that are thrown out, usually after the fact (although not in this case, obviously) that you always pitch around, or even intentionally walk the best hitter just because there's runners on base.

The best hitters in baseball fail to get a hit 7 times out of 10. If it's early in the game you ride the odds.

If it's a close game late....then you pitch around him, or even walk him.

Yeah your theory there is great but why dont you look at the splits before stating a strike out rate of 7 of 10 times. Look at Tony Clark I am sure he meets that criteria too, but against CY he is 5 for 9, all 5 hits being home runs.

Does your theory apply there too?

Is Holliday failing 7 of 10 against us ? Sure seems like that's his success rate to me

Pretty relevant points that should be taken into consideration.

But even if you're doing that at least you're not just blindly pitching around the guy because he's their best hitter and there's runner(s) on base.
