He'd have to give up 11 ERs in a 1 inning outing to fall behind CY.

If he goes 5 he'd have to give up 13

Although it's starting to approach it, one of two things would have to happen before I label this a "horrible idea"

1 - Jake would have to give up 5, as 4 is around what you'd expect Cassel to give up anyways.

2 - They'd have to give up a lot on the next game, which was Jake's next scheduled start.

Of course, Jake could have his mechanics off because of getting hit in the shin.

It's official, pitching on three days rest is the worst idea ever, at least for this generation of pitchers. It doesn't work, not with Peavy, not with Smoltz, not with Glavine, not with Clemens, not with no one, not even the very best of the Hall of Fame pitchers! They're just not conditioned to go with three days off!

although an Adrian Gonzalez HR sure helps ease the pain.

I'd argue your "worst idea ever" moniker if I didn't know you and that you have a flare for the dramatic.

I wish they'd revise the way ERs are awarded, though.

It kind of chaps my ass that Doug Brocail allows three runs to cross the plate and all three are fully awarded to Jake.

I don't support it at all, I'm just using it as another example of the way the stat is recorded.

That mini-rant really had less to do with this game and more to do with that.

Jake could've just as easily had 3 ERs tacked onto his stat sheet on 4 days rest had he left a game with the bases loaded and someone else let them in.
