Padres claim Kai Igawa off waivers

FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Source: Padres claim Igawa off waivers

If the Yankees take some of his salary and he doesn't cost us any real good prospects it's worth the gamble IMHO

You know what's funny about that whole situation? How much did the Yankees pay just to negotiate with him? And the Padres may get him for nothing...Karma.

He's not junk..........at least IMO he's not........it takes a certain breed to pitch in NY in front of that nightmare fanbase, and media frenzy......

This guy is 28, is said to be a #3-4 type arm, $4M/year, in Petco, in a rotation like ours, with a bullpen like ours to back him up, in a place that wont eat him alive if he makes a mistake.......I think he could flourish bigtime.........KT has a knack for finding arms, this guy could be a HUGE gem if we can get him........

I'm hearing bullpen arms in return for him......not necessarily off the ML roster either

No, a max #5 arm who is used to skating fastballs up in the zone.

Take him, and let's be done with it.

I'm impressed with Hughes and Chamberlain....they've got good stuff. They'll be fun to watch for sure.

Yeah please do it! The rest of the NL West will love you for it. The guy is 2-3 with a 6.79 ERA. The guy just isn't worth a damn.

Watch him come in and become Cy Young....nothing personal, just like to see you eat crow Reefer. (Ex. calling Maddux a coward before he threw 1 pitch to Bonds).

Well I call it like he said it. When you sound cowardly, you get called coward. Oh well, waste a player on Igawa. Another lateral move. Lose Branyan, get Ensberg. Lose Wells, get Igawa. Front office genius!

He need only be better than Wells, Stauffer, Thompson and Ledzma......not exactly tall orders.......pitcher friendly ballpark ( so some think ), NLWest ( not a hitters division comparitively speaking), new league ( nobody has seen him before, advantage pitcher ), and the media wont crusify him like in NY.......

Could be just what the he needs to get back on track......

If there is any aspect of this FO you can't really put down, it's their ability to find pitching talent, where nobody else sees it.......Thats now a fact

ESPN's Buster Olney says it's 50-50 whether the Padres will complete a deal with the Yankees for Kei Igawa.

Olney says the Padres won't be picking up any portion of the $26 million posting fee the Yankees paid to negotiate with Igawa, but that they would be willing to give up some actual talent for him. The Yankees would probably want relief help in return and could ask for Cla Meredith.

    From RotoWorld.

    That, I would love.

I have a hard time believing the Padres would part with Cla Meredith. But, anything is possible.

Re: Padres claim Kai Igawa off waivers

I could see it........we have depth in the bullpen......as much as I like Meredith's potential, he is expendable..........and if he can put the screws to Boston, you know NY wants to give him that chance..........
