I forgot to put "to me" before what i posted but to me it seems that he is already giving up because he is already thinking that he will want the big contract and they will not give it to him, he does still have years left and anything can happen from now till that time.

These 3 are the only players that are listed as "top prospects" in the Padres organization. The other 2 being Cesar Carillo and Cesar Ramos. Carillo was shut down for the 2nd straight season with elbow problems and Ramos has a 3.63 ERA in AA San Antonio. If Peavy walks in Free Agency, can any of these fill his role any better than Peavy has?
LeBlanc seems to be working his way up and Fuson said that he will soon be shut down since they don't want him to be near 200 innings pitched.

Has he started pitching?
I haven't heard any news about him since he was signed and Matt Bush seems to have found his position.

From any other source you might have a point.
Towers likes to speculate a lot and doesn't hold back in telling the public.
I wouldn't read much into that comment other than stating the possibility that Jake would want to look for the big payday.

4 games, 3 started in Eugene
stats aren't that impressive but he's just starting his pro career.
I honestly don't know anything about him, just know it took them awhile to sign him.

Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
19 K's in 12 innings and only 4 walks, not bad.
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
We mentioned Jake Peavy's friendship with Roy Oswalt...this is from an article from the Houston Chronicle:
"If the Astros approached Oswalt and told him it would be better for the franchise's future to trade him, he told the Chronicle two weeks ago he would consider waiving his no-trade clause."

Buster Olney just mentioned "expect the Padres to talk trade with the Houston Astros". I don't know how Roy Oswalt could be a possibility, but I know Jake is at least going to bring it up with KT and Sandy, but I don't think the Padres have the pieces to get that kind of deal done.
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
That would truly be a blockbuster and awesome deal, I mean could you only imagine.
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
Here's the deal I would put to Houston:
To Houston:
Scott Linebrink
Khalil Greene
Justin Germano
Cesar Ramos
To San Diego:
Roy Oswalt
Mark Loretta
Reasons:
It gives Houston a short stop they can control long term, which is something Tim Purpura has already said he wanted. It gives them a new closer, especially since they'll end up trading Brad Lidge and it gives Linebrink a chance to be the "Trevor Hoffman" for the Astros and he lives in Texas. It also gives Houston 2 young arms to build into their rotation.
I can't imagine that Houston would part with Roy Oswalt, but I would think this deal would intrigue them a little.

HELL NO........Adding Oswalt would be incredible, but not at the cost of our biggest HR hitters, defensive wiz, and offensive weapons......add to that a top setup man, top prospect, and 24 year old starting pitcher.......this is a terrible idea and vastly overpaying on our part.
Just the idea of swapping Loretta for Greene is a terrible idea.......we'd take a massive offensive hit, and we can't afford that...... LO will get on and hit .300, but he's not an RBI guy, never has been, nor will he hit for power.
Linebrink, Germano & top pitching prospect I could get behind.......leave KG outta that deal.....we'd be ****ed at the SS spot for a long time
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
If we had a kickass SS in AAA ready to come up........I'd listen to this........but we don't, and Loretta is NOT a sufficient substitute for KG .....especially if KG stays healthy.......he's on pace for what.....
30hr/90rbi............Loretta couldn't do that in his wildest wet dream
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
Read MLBRumor.com Oswalts not going anywhere so we should just lose the idea now.
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
We can add Loretta and give up something expendable..........
We could likely add a #3 type of pitcher as well while only giving up something expendable
Losing one of the games best SS's is NOT an option IMO......
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
Olney was talking about Loretta, not Oswalt:laugh: Fres, you left out Young and Germano (mainly Young) from the young/good pitchers list. Plus the can get a FA pitcher to help out and by the time Peavy leaves who knows where those guys in AA will be.
Re: Peavy gone when becomes a FA?
lol........by then.......Matt Bush will be starting and gassing guys on the bigleague club :D
