    Peavy To Start ASG

Jake Peavy was chosen over Brad Penny to start the All-Star Game for the NL squad.
A battle of the ERA leaders would have had Chris Young facing Dan Haren, but Peavy ranks second in the NL and is first in strikeouts. Manager Tony La Russa will go with a lineup of SS Jose Reyes, LF Barry Bonds, CF Carlos Beltran, RF Ken Griffey Jr., 3B David Wright, 1B Prince Fielder, C Russell Martin, 2B Chase Utley and Peavy.
Great choice as I wanted him all along to start. LaRussa has done something right this year. Look at Bonds batting second

I agree. Peavy has been possibly the most dominating pitcher in the NL for the first half, his only real "rival" was Brad Penny. If my memory serves me correct, Penny started last year in Pittsburgh. I don't remember what the line was though...anyways, Peavy leads the NL in strikeouts, K's per nine innings, WHIP, opponent's slugging percentage, and has only allowed 3 homers all season to go with a 9-3 record. Now tell my why you'd go with anyone else.

Penny did very well last year if a remembering correctly. He was hitting 98mph pretty regularly.

I hate the fact that Barry Bonds is even on the team. There have got to be better Left Fielders in the NL than his old ass, Home Town or not.

I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Were you trying to ask how he's not a starter?

Well you can cry all day but he does deserve to be there. 1st in OBP and OPS and third in Slugging. Not to mention he has 17 homeruns. Typical Padre bias but like him or not, he does belong.

Bonds is actually having an all star year.

I'm sure he'd still be there even if he weren't, but he is having a good season.

I believe that Bonds belongs in the ASG too. Like reefer said, he's a leader (or in the top 10) in quite a few offensive catagories. I think it's very fitting that he's the starter, and I know many players are very happy that he is, not to mention the SF fans.

Not a Padre Bias, if I was a TB D-Rays fan I still wouldnt like him, I dont like his personality or attitude, but with that sad I didnt realize he was having such a good offensive year, how is his defense, I know I have seen put out some good effort for some balls, but looked as if he was really straining to get to them.

I think he should be in the ASG, but not as a starter. There are others who have put up first half numbers in the N.L. that are better than his IMO that should have that starting spot.

    Re: Peavy To Start ASG

The problem I have with *Bonds being a starter in the game is that the game actually means something now.......he's a frigg'n liabilty in the OF anymore.......yes he can still swing it, roids have made him into a monster, but he can't run down a ball in the gap, and has near zero value to this team as a fulltime player......

If the ASG were on an AL field, he could DH all game long and that would be fine.......but we're going to need a player that can still go get the ball, not just hit it......
