But they have made worse pitchers look good, so who knows.
I hate to throw the "I told you so" out there, but you can't ask Peavy to go out there and protect 1 run leads every time out. They need to give him at least a 3 run cushion so Jake can go out there and do what he does best. If you only give him a 1 run lead, he's going to pitch too cautiously.

It's easy to say "i told you so" after the fact, but your initial post was made as an "in general" statement.

It's always nice to have the breathing room a 3 run lead gives you as compared to a 1 run lead, but more often than not all Jake needs is 1 or 2. That's not to say they shouldn't give him more, but that's generally all he needs.

Well, Jake needs 4 runs today.

You going to say that's what he always needs when he's on the mound?

That's my original post. The one before that was saying not to take Kim too lightly, he put up a good outing against Atlanta last time out and that the Padres make bad pitchers look like the next coming of Cy Young.

Do I think this offense should put up at least 3-4 runs per game to help our pitching staff, HELL YES! It's crap that Major League hitters can't hit with a runner on 3rd with noone out, or runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. You can't expect Peavy to go out there and put up 0's every inning, every game.

Please do not mistake my posts as an implication that the team only needs to score 1 or 2 per game in general.

I simply found it perplexing that you insinuated that they need to with Jake on the mound like as though Jake can't get a W unless he has that much run support.

Jake's having a bad day today, hardly an indicator of a normal game with him on the mound.

I "insinuated" that they needed to this afternoon. Kim is a better pitcher than people give him credit for and this Marlins' ballclub is a good hitting team. I had the feeling that if the Padres didn't give him 3-4 runs to work with, it wasn't going to go very well this afternoon.

What does Kim's ability to pitch have to do with Jake's ability to prevent the Marlins from scoring?

    Re: Marlins@Padres 7/2/07-7/5/07

It has everything to do with it. I knew Kim could come in here and only give up 1-2 runs. With the way the Marlins have been hitting (except with runners in scoring position), I just had a feeling that Jake would give up at least 2 runs. I just didn't take into account that Adrian and Cameron would have 4 K's between them today.

My first game loss is not because of Wells but moreso because Mitre is the kind of guy who we may not hit.Young, talented pitcher who we may have never faced.
I'm with you guys though,we could just sweep this thing, but the Marlins offense can be pretty potent.......and ours.........well,ours really can't!
D-Backs are on the road in St Luwey,Dodgers clash with the Braves. We could make a little move here before the break?!
With our offense I should have known better than to call ANY pitching match-up lopsided!

So you're saying if Brian Tollberg were pitching for the Marlins today Jake wouln't have given up 2 runs in the 2nd or a home run to Hermedia?

I understand your point Hollywood, I do. But my point was going back to someone calling this a "lopsided matchup". To which I replied, if this offense can't give Jake 3-4 runs to work with off Kim, he isn't going to matter much. Looks like I was correct in that statement.
