It's easy to say he "should have" but do you know he could have?

I might hand you LF, despite my previous statements in regards to the uncertainty of the bullpen at the time of which we reportedly could have acquired Rowand, but do you know he could have used him to fix 3B last year?

The only deal we know of that he turned down was for Betemit and I am not going to concede that that would have fixed anything on your grounds of "we'll never know"

    Actually it's a good thing.

I'd much rather have compensatory draft picks than a rental who doesn't help in his stint here in return for Linebrink and watch some other team get the extra draft picks for the guy who spent the previous 3 1/2 seasons helping the Padres.

Last year you are most likely right.

This year I disagree on the grounds that no team is going to trade for a rental unless they're in contention, and if they're in contention they're not going to give us what we'd need.

I get a different impression everytime you tell me we should have traded Linebrink for Betemit regardless of anything Betemit has done since the time the trade was denied.

The only 2 deals that I'm aware of that KT has reported to have turned down are Betemit and Rowand.

I don't think the Betemit deal would have been in our favor. You seem to disagree simply because Betemit plays the position we needed last year.

I'm not saying we should trade them, and in an ideal world I'd rather move the guy who's going to be a free agent, but unfortunately this isn't an ideal world and teams aren't going to want to trade for Linebrink for the same reason we would want to trade him first.

The fact that they would be able to control them longer is the exact reason why Cla or Bell would fetch more when dealing with teams that would be willing to give up what we need.

I'd need to see a link showing he turned down WMP because all I've ever heard about that was speculation that we were interested in him.

We don't know who Towers' has turned down for Linebrink, so it's only speculation. Though Towers did say on the Scott & BR show that he's turned down "numerous" deals for Linebrink over the last year and a half but there's no way to know who was involved in those deals.

Those deals could very well be bench players that would be back ups here, and thus not worth getting worked up over or throwing out accusations of "love affairs"

You have to give the guy credit though, the Padres had interest in Jason Schmidt but decided not to go after him....GOOD MOVE.

Towers admitted the Padres had no interest in Barry Zito...GOOD MOVE

Now Schmidt is out for the remainder of the season and Zito is getting booed even at home. So Towers is doing, at least some, things right.

My point is we don't know so there's no point in throwing out accusations.

I would be willing to bet, however, that the vast majority of the offers coming from other teams involved bench players that wouldn't be worth it.

    Bidding always starts low.
