    Padres Padres draft picks.

With their 1st pick in the draft the Padres take LHP from Arkansas, Nicholas Schmidt

Minor League Baseball: Events: 2007 Draft Report

Fastball:Schmidt's fastball sits at around 91 mph.
    Slider:
Schimdt wasn't able to throw his breaking stuff in his first start, partially because of temperatures that were around 30 degrees..
Changeup:An above-average offering to go along with his fastball.
    Control:
Usually his forte, but Schmidt never got a good feel in his three innings against Louisiana Tech, walking five.
    Physical Description:
Big, tall, workhorse of a lefty.
    Medical Update:
    Healthy.
    Strengths:
command of his fastball and changeup, usually. With the cold and under a strict pitch count of 65, he never got going in this start.
Weaknesses:His breaking stuff. Schmidt will have to show the ability to throw his slider more consistently to stay high on draft charts.
    Summary:
Schmidt deserves a bit of a mulligan because of the conditions and the fact that it was just his first outing of the year. But he'll have to show that slider as the season wears on.

    Re: Padres draft picks.

with the 40th pick the Padres take LF Kellen Kulbacki from James Maddison

Minor League Baseball: Events: 2007 Draft Report

    Focus Area
    Comments
Hitting Ability:Kulbacki is an above-average hitter with the chance to hit for average.
Power:Kulbacki has plus raw power and has the chance to be a run producer.
    Running Speed:
He's a slightly below-average runner, but he's better underway. He's not a clogger on the basepaths.
    Base Running:
He has very good instincts on the bases, though he's not a base-stealer.
    Arm Strength:
While he plays right in college, his arm is more playable in left.
Fielding:He's an average fielder who's better suited overall for the other corner.
    Range:
    He's got slightly below-average range.
    Physical Description:
Kulbacki is a little stocky with a Brian Giles-type body.
    Medical Update:
    Healthy.
Strengths:The bat. He can flat-out hit and hit for average and power.
Weaknesses:His defense is fine, but he'll be likely limited to left field at the next level.
    Summary:
Kulbacki had a huge sophomore season when he hit .464 with 24 home runs. He's followed it up with an outstanding junior season, good timing for a year with a weak college hitting class. While not a bad defender, it's definitely his bat that will carry him, and it should carry him quite far.

    Re: Padres draft picks.

with the 46th pick the Padres take SS Andrew Cumberland Pace HS Florida

Hitting Ability: Cumberland is a contact line-drive type hitter.
    Power: He has below-average power.
Running Speed: His best tool. Cumberland has plus, plus running speed.
Base Running: He's not just fast, he knows how to use his speed well on the bases.
Arm Strength: His arm is usable, but he has slightly below-average arm strength. He has to throw on the run to get something extra on it.
Arm Accuracy: Some bad footwork leads Cumberland to have slightly below-average accuracy.
Fielding: Cumberland is inconsistent with his fielding and scouts are split over whether he'll have to move to second or perhaps center field, where his speed would play better.
Range: Because of his tremendous speed, Cumberland does have plus range.
Physical Description: Cumberland is an athletic, fairly small, leadoff type and has a body type that looks a bit like a taller Brian Roberts.
Medical Update: Cumberland was hampered by a hamstring problem late in the season, but it was not considered serious.
Strengths: His speed and his makeup.
Weaknesses: He doesn't seem to have a true defensive home. Is he a shortstop, a second baseman or a center fielder?
Summary: Cumberland is one the faster players in this year's draft class and will get a long look from some because of his leadoff potential. He makes good contact, though he'll never hit for power and is simply a solid baseball player who plays the game right. His main drawback is where he fits in defensively, but whether it's at short, second or in the outfield, many think his speed game will play anywhere.

I like how you started with the Name, Link, and Description, then just gave us the name and description, and then just the name. I guess the lower they go in the draft the less info you give us.

Some of the names don't have a player description with them, especially in the later rounds.

The only reason I had a description for Cumberland was because I stole it from another forum.

I couldn't find anything on him.

As for Cunham, I posted that right before I left to go bowling.

I just edited the post with a bio

    Re: Padres draft picks.

Pick 117 Thomas Toledo RHP Braulio Alonso HS (Fla.)

Fastball:Toledo throws his fastball in the 89-93 mph range.
    Curve:
It's a curve/slider and it's sharp. He throws it in the 78-80 mph range.
Changeup:Toledo throws a changeup at 81-82 mph and commands it well.
    Control:
He can command all of his pitches and shows the ability to move his fastball in and out as well as up and down.
    Poise:
He's confident on the mound, a good competitor who is aggressive with his pitches.
Physical Description:Toledo is a very athletic pitcher with a compact delivery who is also a good hitter.
    Medical Update:Healthy.
    Strengths:
He's got three pitches he can throw for strikes and has an idea of how to locate pitches and keep hitters off-balance.
    Weaknesses:
His breaking pitch can get a little loopy at times. He'll occasionally cut off his delivery and he'll step too far to the third-base side at times, making it difficult for him to hit the inside part of the plate to left-handed hitters.
    Summary:
Toledo is an athletic right-hander with a good arm and compact delivery. He's got an excellent feel for pitching and has the ability to throw three pitches for strikes. A good competitor, Toledo maximizes the stuff he does have by locating his pitches and keeping hitters off-balance. Pitchability is usually a term reserved for left-handers, but it works for Toledo.

Screams conversion to 2nd if I ever hear one........leadoff 2bag of the future maybe ??? Hopefully that's done right away.....
