Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
I want offense as much(maybe more) than the next Padre fan. But,you can be sure they will be very cautious about what they give up considering we have the second best record in the NL "right now"!
I realize a "bat" could put us over the proverbial hump.....but Pitching is why we are where we are and the FO will not just throw caution to the wind.
That being said,"if" Dunn is indeed signed to a 3+ year extension.....the value is worth the arms,IMO!
Just no rental please!

If that's the case it makes the most sense if in fact McCann can make the transition......

What was also evident was our lack of hitting / scoring

McCann is young and first is about the easiest transition to go to especially for a catcher. If Biggio can go from catcher to second base to center back to second, a young guy like McCann will have no problem. Both guys are young and can learn to play first if need be.

"As expected, the Padres' pitching staff has been among the best in the National League. Also as expected, the offense may need some help. General Manager Kevin Towers said the team is always exploring options, but no moves to pick up a big bat are imminent. "
I guess we shouldn't expect anything soon especially since the Pads are tied for first.

Sounds like someone is playing winter ball to me
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
The Braves won't trade Salty, this kid is a superstar in the making. Atlanta is wanting to groom him as a 1st baseman and a backup catcher in case McCann needs a day off or goes down to injury.
As far as Ichiro is concerned, don't hold your breath that he's a Padre or even gets traded by Seattle. The only 2 teams that will get into a bidding war at the trading deadline are the Red Sox and the Dodgers. Only problem is, the Mariners have been rumored to be asking for Matt Kemp, Andy LaRoche and James Loney in return.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Jayson Stark on Salty....
Clubs that have asked the Braves about Jarrod Saltalamacchia report they've been turned down flat. But by July, the Braves expect to have a better read on whether Scott Thorman is the answer at first and/or whether Saltalamacchia can be an alternative first base option. And those answers will determine whether Saltalamacchia becomes their No. 1 trading chip at the deadline -- but only for a major player whom they'd control for multiple years.

Adum Dunn will be a Padre before July 31st...Remember it, write it down, notate it.
Quit getting my hopes up Fmr :(
I'm not holding my breath till I actually see it.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
I'm telling you HWood....right it down, remember I said it, notate it, tatoo it on your arm. Ask one of my co-workers here, I've predicted that the Padres would win the NL West the past 2 seasons before the season even started and I predicted it again this season.
The sources that I have, and they're network sources, are saying that the Padres have their eye square on Adam Dunn.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
lol.......well Fmr.........I posted what you said on a couple other boards, and it started a whole bunch of hooey on the SOSD board ......lol......of course damn near anything there does
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
I don't mean to sound crass, but didn't your sources also say we were going to sign Zito?
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Hey I predicted you guys wouldn't get Ztio and I have zero insiders. Where are my props:) Padres definitely have the pitching to get a guy like Dunn so that's a very good possibility. He could play left over the horrid guy you have there now and give Adrian a day off when needed.
