Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Either way, I see a lot of pissed off people. Dunn's contract will allow him to stay a Red next season should the Reds pick up his option, and I think Dunn feels loyalty to the Reds for the contract, working with him and bringing a hitting coach in for the primary reason of working Dunn. He's been our top run producer and therefore valued when you get past the people who complain about strikeouts or defense (that is improved this season), not to mention he is still 27. To get the value for what we would lose, Padres fans would be ticked off. Then again if the Padres believe that Dunn will surely opt for FA and the Reds buy that, Reds fans will be less than happy with the return. That is pretty much any trade involving Dunn though in a nutshell and sadly I see myself contemplating a team switch if I have to be a victim of yet another poor trade by our sorry GM.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
I tried to team switch once, back in the early 90s when Tom Werner was selling everyone off to the lowest bidder.
I found myself too emotionally attached to the Padres to change, though.
(Ironically enough it was the Gary Sheffield-Trevor Hoffman trade that I labeled the "final straw")

And we obviously aren't missing Clay Hensley at all.
Headley isn't a small price if he's included with Hensley in a deal that would simply get us a rental for a few months.......Keep in mind Leo......it's not worth it to me if Dunn option is voided......if we get Dunn for two seasons, and the price is the above mentioned......I'm down
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
If the trade was made and the Padres proceeded to win the World Series, with Dunn contributing like we think he would, but then Dunn walked....I'd think it was worth it.
But that's the risk they'd be taking because Dunn naturally wouldn't guarantee winning anything.

I'd like to make all my decisions based on hindsight too then

That's the perks of being armchair GM fan.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Well then let it rip and I'll decide if I was pro or con after the season is over.....lol.....
If we get Dunn and don't win the WS, and p/u his option, and in Apl. next year he blows his knee out....then walks at season end after only getting 50 AB's in '08.............is it worth it still ?
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
By the way.....it's nice to see you in here for more than a short stint....:D

I check these boards a lot, just don't always have something to respond to. :(
I'm also all over strike3, not just the Padres forum.

Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
So no more Bard love affair since you guys now want Salty from the Braves? Dunn is a good possibility if the padres are smart about and guarantee Dunn a contract before the trade along with Hensley and someone else.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
I like Bard......but if you have an opportunity to get what could be a future superstar backstop......and you happen to have what the team he's blocked on might want......you'd be stupid to not at least make a run at him.......If we don't get him......I'm VERY ok with continuing on with Bard.......
Salty will be bigger, stronger a better hitter, hit for more power, has a cannon for an arm, and plays great defense......
I'd say Bard is pretty avg across the board with a plus being he's a decent switch hitter
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
According to some Atlanta media, they are thinking of the possibility of making McCann their future 1b and keeping Salty as their catcher. I for one didn't see that coming but it does make sense as both are on the cheap and fill holes for quite sometime. They need to save money to go get a CFer for next year.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Hi all...I know I know, long time no see, I get that grief from PFF.
Anyway, I talked to a source of mine (family friend) that works for a CBS Affiliate in Northern California earlier today. According to him, Dunn wants to be a Padre before the deadline, but he wants to get traded only if the Padres sign him to an extension, otherwise, he'll stick it out in Cincinnati and test free agency at the end of the year. I also asked him about Aaron Rowand and he told me that Rowand is a 2nd or 3rd option, Dunn is the guy they want.
Re: Official 2007 Trade Rumors
Well then, get it dunn. (corny pun intended.)
