    Re: Cameron?

    Ugh

Cameron's shagged maybe 3 fly balls (at least 2 of which involved the sun getting in his eyes...) and suddenly he's Ryan Klesko in the outfield?

    Is that what you're suggesting?

a few misplayed fly balls is the difference between letting him work out of his slump and letting Jose "I'm not really a switch hitter but I play one on TV" Cruz Jr be the starter?

on a side note: Large bolded text is more annoying than excessive exclamation points. We can have a baseball debate without "yelling".

I use large font so often you know ( first time in months )..........typically I don't need it but you clearly weren't able to read what was being written.

Sun getting in his eyes ... during a night game ? Nice try......the only one I'd give any sort of allowance for is the misplayed ball in Chicago. The winds there can reek havoc on flyballs, and even the best can look like fools......

    Strike
    1. lack of hitting
    2. terrible defense
    3. mental mistakes on the base pads

3 strikes yer out........something he's used too hearing

While Cruz Jr is playing well you're damn skippy we should ride that train. I don't think it will last, but this team needs offense, not K's shotty D and base running blunders......right now Cruz Jr. is a better choice......

AND........Cruz Jr can hit at the top of the order while Cameron can't, and is far better suited to the 6 hole or lower.....

Unfortunately he's in a groove now, a bad one and sometimes in order to get out of that you need to slap the machine, like a record stuck. While he isnt playing every day he can be working with Merv, shake out the nerves or whatever it is thats plaguing him, and then slowly work himself back into a good groove, 2 days a wewk, then three, then full time.

You know ease back into a positive groove and out of this bad one.

You seriously believe I was refering to a night game when I made mention to the sun in his eyes?

Besides, even if he just stood there with his thumb up his ass and watched a ball fall right in front of him, 3 misplayed balls doesn't constitute the difference between benching and not benching to me.

Like I said, i'm all for benching him more so than you otherwise would.

But to outright bench him and treat him like a rookie is a bit excessive.

Well I think you made a good point earlier, give him a little more time to work it out, and if this crap keeps happening then he is just too much of a liability that is hurting the team, ala V Castilla (not a rookie either, but was hurting the team too much).

    Re: Cameron?

The difference between Vinny and Cameron is Vinny proved over an entire career that he sucks outside of Coors Field. Not to mention, Vinny was 39 when we got him. Cameron's "only" 34.

Cameron's current woes would be an abnormality should they continue.

He's certainly not helping his case for a contract extension/good contract in free agency.

Sure those are their differences, but their similarities are that they were/are struggling at the plate and hurting the team. You cant put an age on a players downward career plunge. I am not saying that this is whats happening with MC, but maybe it is. One difference is VC played better defense than Mike is when they let him go.

    Re: Cameron?

If Vinny gets till June, Cameron sure as hell gets more than 2 and a half weeks.

I'm not sure benching him is the right thing to do .. I just am saying that I am hard pressed to remember him making such obvious misreads on the baseball as I've seen so far this year. Didn't he have one in the home opener (or that series anyway)? Everyone in the stands knew he had to go up and get that ball and he took 2 steps back. To me, it is a concern that needs to watched and if it continues, changes will have to be made.

    Re: Cameron?

I've been baffled by his defense as well.

If he wasn't a perennial gold glover we'd just blow them off as occasional mistakes, but this kind of stuff is unheard of for Cameron.

Side!!?? I don't think I really have a concern about his hitting. As noted, he normally starts out slow. I just had some concerns with his defense which seems to be getting better over the past few games. I guess we'll wait and see.
