Shaddup! 40-something scoreless innings with an elite middle reliever and a catcher who discovered his stroke to a backup catcher who's lucky to hit .200 whose lone good role is to catch a 4th SP and be fodded for DOUGIE'S GOING DEEP posts on internet forums.

Yah it sucks.......but we're not exactly shallow in the catcher position, and Nevin is still available as a FA.....before you vomit on your keyboard think about this......he's a righty with some pop still, can back up catcher,1st and 3rd, and would be cheap. He's also a local hero to many still and would probably boost attendance.....

For the record, I'm not a Nevin fan, but I think the Padres should look hard at this possibility. Option PMac and sign Nevin ??

Edit......Nevermind.......I say promote Luke Carlin for the short stint and let this kid taste big league pitching. He's 26, and killing the ball right now ( yes in very few AB's so far ), and I think he's considered a better prospect than LaForest

Nevin only needs 7 home runs to become the all time leader in home runs in Padres history.

I'm pretty torn on what they should do....while the sky is not falling over this, it's a opportunity for them to either get a young guy experience, or strenghen their bench for cheap. The FO has said they would like a rty power bat of the bench, well Nevin provides that on the cheap, and I'm sure he'd take damn near anything offered him right now since he's outta work. On the other hand Carlin is a switch hitter who is blistering the ball in Portland right now and could benefit from the exposure to ML pitching maybe.

Well, you know, they had Ramon Hernandez once.

(I'd actually be happy if they signed Nevin)

    LOL......you'd think he'd have given up ?

I'd be pretty ok with a Nevin signing also right now......I think it makes quite a bit of sense, and addresses some key issues.....and he'd be very cheap

It's the Canadian, LaForest .. according to the Padres website.
