Padres Chris Young signed through 2010, option for 2011

    First Adrian, now Young.

FOX Sports - MLB - Young set to sign long-term deal

Young, who turns 28 on May 25, has reached an agreement on a four-year contract with a club option for as fifth year, FOXSports.com has learned. The right-hander had been signed for $600,000 this season with a club option for 2008. His new deal replaces that one, and ties him to the Padres potentially though 2011, his first free-agent year.
No word on the amount of the deal, though.

The Eaton has gotta be looking awesome for you guys now.
Regardless of the amount, very smart deal for the Padres. I hope Young can continue to pitch at least as good as he did last season.

The Official Site of The San Diego Padres: News: San Diego Padres News

    Financial details

On Tuesday, less than a day after Young tossed seven scoreless innings in a victory over San Francisco and less than a month since Towers and Babby met, the 27-year-old had agreed to a four-year contract worth $14.5 million, including a includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $8.5 million club option for 2011.

He'll receive $750,000 this season, $2.5 million in 2008, $4.5 million in 2009 and $6.25 million in 2010. The deal covers his arbitration-eligible years as well as his first year of free agency.

Nothing you can say about this other than a great move by the Pads to lock up a stud young SP. Certainly a reasonable price for a guy who should be a very solid #2 behind Peavy.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Cameron for say....... 3/30 ? My only question is will a 3 year deal qualify him as a 10/5 guy ? If so, I could see this as a major sticking point for the Padres FO.....So they may only be interested in a 2 year deal, and why on earth would Cameron be at 34 ?

If I'm not mistaken, that is less than $4 million a year. Considering the amounts pitchers were getting in free agency that is a huge steal for the Padres.

I think I'd rather sign him for a 2 year deal. I just remember hearing on one of the broadcasts that both sides were talking. It could have been just Mark Grant being Mark Grant ..

Found this in the SI.com 'Truth & Rumors' section. I don't get the UT except on weekends so I missed this ..

Padres GM Kevin Towers said the next players on the Padres' negotiations list are center fielder Mike Cameron and reliever Scott Linebrink -- both eligible for free agency at the end of the season. -- San Diego Union-Tribune

Re: Chris Young signed through 2010, option for 2011

I'm not sure Cameron would even listen to a 2 year deal unless the money was outlandish, which we know isn't going to be the case here. He's 34, and this very well might be his last payday and decent contract, so he's going to want/need to get the best deal available. I think it's going to take a minimum of 3 years possibly with an option for a 4th, but he'll be 39 at the end of that 4th year, and his injury past probably tells us that's not a good deal for the Padres.....

3/30 I think gets it done and makes both sides happy so long as he doesn't qualify as a 10/5 guy, and I think he might........and even that might not be a huge issue for the Padres at that point....but who knows
