    Kouz vs. Barfield

I noticed that HWood has started a tracker for Kouz and Barfield. I was thinking that maybe we could make predictions for who we think will outperform the other.......We also need to keep a MGiles vs. Barfield tracker to compete the trade trifecta....

My vote goes to Kouz ( trying not to be a homer here ), I just think this kid is going to settle in and be a huge bat for us. Otherwise I think this is how it's going to break down between these two...

    Kouz > overall power #'s
    Kouz > BA
    Kouz > OPS

    Barfield > more stolen bases

Sandy defended the trade stating serviceable 2nd basemen can be found almost every offseason, and stated that we should probably expect to see 9 2nd basemen in the next 14 years. (Or something to that regard.)

If they're going with this philosophy I think it only matters that Giles is productive, and not really what he does as compared to Barfield.

I think MGiles could find a home here for the next 7 years if he starts producing like he can. If that's the case, why not compare what we had to what we have at the same position? While also comparing what we had to what we traded for ??

For me HWood it would provide another feather in KT's cap, and since he takes so many hits, I would like to give him props where he deserves them as well

The thing for me, though, is tracking whether or not the trade was worth it.

Marcus Giles does not have to out produce Josh Barfield for that to be the case.

If Kouz proves to be a better asset than Barfield and Marcus is, at least, serviceable the trade was more than worth it.

    Bitterness about what?

I hope Barfield excels in Cleveland.

Barfield is off to a 'nice' start but it is one game. Honestly I really do hope he does very well!

I think everyone hopes for the best for him.......he is going to be something special, and I would like to have been able to keep him, but Giles and Kouzmanoff will likely be better than Barfield and Branyan would have been

Ah, I'm only looking at offensive production. I didn't watch the game.

They're off to even starts in terms of average, but Josh's one hit was a triple with two men on.

Barfield has the edge after one game. But there's still 161 to go.

    Re: Kouz vs. Barfield

I think all Padre fans wish the best for Barfield, but I think if Kouz continues to struggle at the plate, we'll start hearing the "We traded Barfield for who?" talk start, if it hasn't already.
