    Padres Todd Walker cut

San Diego Padres, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Marcus Giles, Todd Walker, Major League Baseball - CBS SportsLine.com

"This is strictly a baseball decision," general manager Kevin Towers said, adding that Walker's salary "didn't factor into the decision. We're two-time NL West champions and want to win again. For us it's putting the right 25 guys on the field to start the year and we felt there were people that were ahead of him."
I wanted him to stay but he won't be missed.

Not suprised one bit. I actually an a huge fan favorite of Todd Walker from his Cubs days, but, with the kind of money he makes, there really isn't much room for him on the roster. He's a really good utility man but has been having a horrid spring training. I don't know if he's nursing any injury or anything, but 14 games, 0 homers, 1rbi, 5K's and hitting slightly above .200 won't cut it.

Todd won't have that much of an argument with his putrid performance in ST.

And with the way Paul McAnulty has been performing I'm sure the Padres can win an argument that they cut him for baseball related reasons.

I think making room for PMac, who has more of a upside potential than Walker, is a move they needed to make.

Yeah that should be a pretty easy arguement they can make for McAnulty. Does anyone have his stats from the minor league just so i can have an idea of what kind of player he is?

And, ik it won't be for the same kind of money, but Walker should be able to find a job somewhere else, despite a poor ST....

Nice insurance policy at 1st I guess.......I would think they missed the boat not signing Nevin to back up 1st though.......he could also DH for them if needed.....anyone think of a reason they didn't go with a better 1st baseman with a better bat and more pop who is also available?
