David Wells has type 2 Diabetes

SignOnSanDiego.com > San Diego Padres -- Wells has new ailment: diabetes

PEORIA, Ariz. – David Wells' life changed two weeks ago when he learned he has Type 2 diabetes, also called adult-onset diabetes.

“Obviously, this is a concern,” the Padres' 43-year-old pitcher said yesterday. “But it's beatable. And I'm going to beat it. It's going to take some lifestyle changes. And I'm already making them.

“From the time I found out, I made changes. No more starches and sugar. No more rice, pasta, potatoes and white bread. No more fast food. I've cut out alcohol.”
Diabetes runs in my family, so I know it sucks. Hope he can keep it under control.

I have family members that deal with it also.......it sucks for them......this should scare him into losing a ton of weight......

I was lambasted on the SOSD forum for saying this, but I really hope Tony has a wake up call soon.......I'd hate for bad things to happen to him and his weight is outta control......

This isn't a big shock considering how he lives his life. My father has it and sad to say I am on my way towards it myself. I have starting losing weight ever since I quit smoking pot so that's a start. 190lbs baby!!!

My grandmother died from Diabetes and my uncle has it. My parents look like they could get it also. I on the other hand on weigh 111lbs. I lose weight just by getting up every day.

I just hope I can control my weight later in life.

Wells, 38, who has dropped 30 pounds, in part by reducing his consumption of booze and fried foods. "Except on Sundays," Wells said. "Sunday is my only day to eat crap."
He said that five years ago. Who knows if he has stuck to that diet since then.

He didn't have diabetes 5 years ago, so hopefully that motivates him more.

He's nolonger in a position to do what he "wants" he's now forced to do what he "must"......that alone is motivation enough for anyone with half a brain.....This will only do good things for him, and is likely a blessing in disguise....he will drop massive weight from this, and his back and knees will benefit greatly from having to push less mass around.....and if he can control and drop his weight, he'll move out of heart attack range as well.....again, I sure hope Tony Gwynn is paying attention
