The Padres have at least temporarily tabled a trade offer from Philadelphia that would have brought outfielder Aaron Rowand to the Padres for relief pitcher Scott Linebrink.

Good......Linebrink was vastly overpaying for Rowand........Rowand probably wont produce much more offense than Sledge/Cruz will.....better D yes, but not offense, which is the whole FRIGG'N point of trading our best piece.....

Rowand could easily produce more than Sledge/Cruz and play better defense than the "Gold Glover" Cameron in center. Rowand is a balls out player who has speed and has some pop on his bat.

Rowand has hit more than 13 HRs once in his career with his career high of 24.

I wouldn't, exactly, say he has pop in his bat.

And yes, Rowand would be a better LFer than Sledge/Cruz Jr....but not so much so that it'd be worth trading Linebrink for him.

Oh please! He hit 12 last year while missing 50+ games. He does have pop in his bat. That pop will be tunred into doubles in Petco. Yes it would be worth trading Linebrink for because you get a CFer for the future and Linebrink will likely be gone after 07 if he has a good year.

Personally I think Rowand would be a great fit for most teams. The guy is a tremendous defender and you can always count on him to give his maximum effort. He's a solid hitter too and won't kill you in the lineup. Whether or not he's worth Linebrink I don't know, but I would love to have a guy like him around.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

I love how you left out the rest of my comment after you misquote it Typical Leo! No matter what you think, he has 20 HR power.

Furthermore, Rowand's 12 HRs in 109 games last year projects to a whopping 17 HRs had he matched his career high of 157 games. 18 if you project it to 162.

Using at bats, his 12 HRs in 405 ABs translates to 17 if he was to match his career high 578 at bats.

    Rowand doesn't have much pop.

And ask Ryan Klesko and Phil Nevin about would-be HRs translating into doubles at PetCo.

If Rowand has 20 HR power Phil Nevin has 40 HR power, and Brady Anderson has 50 HR power

Padres can afford to lose Linebrink since they are likely to do so after the season. They have a surplus of young arms that can setup the best closer of all-time. Its worth getting your CFer for the next four years.

I wouldn't be terribly upset over a Linebrink-Rowand trade, mainly due to Rowand's defense combined with Linebrink's possible departure.

But Rowand wouldn't be much better than Sledge/Cruz Jr offensively

Nice try but the guy is a linedrive hitter and can easily hit 20 homers. He has played three whole seasons and did it once and would have last year so again he has 20 homerun power.

If he had not gotten injured last year he was on pace for a whopping 17 HRs last year....at the bandbox in Philly.

Did you skip over that post?
