Okay okay...when you put it that way it doesnt look so promising for my boys....but thats why they play the games right? Who knows, maybe we'll still sweep.

Now time for some lopsided, only-a-dodger-fan-would-say propaganda :

It's somewhat of a different Dodgers team this year. The rookies are a year older, and we've gotten rid of that shell-of-a-man JD Drew. Drew, our supposed "middle of the order bat" was a rally killer against Peavy and Chris Young. It really only takes one player in a lineup to make a pitchers game-ERA go from 2.00 to 6.00. JD Drew when batting against Chris Young and Jake Peavy hit a combined .105. 2 hits, 18 at bats, 1 RBI. Good riddance. JD Drew's replacement? Luis Gonzalez. Sure, he's getting older but he still punched over 50 doubles last year. And last year vs. Jake Peavy he had a .429 BA and a 1.171 OPS. Career he is a .410 hitter, 4 homers, 12 RBI's, and an outrageous 1.346 OPS. Versus Chris Young, he only has 4 career at-bats but he does have an RBI against him. With one swing of the bat, Gonzo could make Peavy go from pitching a gem, to pitching a disaster.

As for Chris Young, his ERA is pretty good vs. the Dodgers, but he still had a losing record. He was 0-1...you can call it a lack of run support, or you can call it being outpitched by another great Dodger pitching performance.

In regards to Schmidt and Penny's numbers versus the Padres...well, maybe Penny just woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day....and Schmidt? um, lets blame it on a poor Giants scouting report

I call it lack of run support. You can only do so much when your team doesn't score for you.

And this is why the win/loss column on a pitcher's stat sheet is overrated.

P.S. - Andre Ethier was brutal vs. Peavy last year. Expect him to warm the bench in games Peavy starts...and Marlon Anderson will take his spot in the lineup.

    Anderson vs Peavy:

    Career: .455 1 HR 1.182 OPS

I thought Benitez was the Giants' closer? But I guess there has been talk about him being moved to Florida.

I sense the sarcasm in your comment about Pierre...not really sure if you were being sarcastic about Gonzo....but I do think it was a good pickup. Low risk 1 year deal, and he'll come in handy vs the padres because he hits well against hte pitchers, and come in handy vs the diamondbacks because he wants to shove it down their stinking throats.

Pierre's poor arm is no secret...and he's not exactly a difference maker w/ the bat...he's a difference maker with his legs. His legs will win us many more games than his arm will lose for us.

Saito is going to close. He had some of the best numbers of all NL closers last year...with the exception of the # of saves because he didnt take over that role until Baez pitched himself out of it

No, Todd Worrell is our closer. (Shush, fetters. You're blowing my cover. Padre fans don't even realize that Tim Worrell is retired.)

Good job, padrefanforever and FmrFresnan didn't call you out on that, and since they represent the entire Padres fanbase, you sure pulled a fast one on all of us.

    Silly Padre fans.

    "You're generalizing us! How rude!"

I'd venture to estimate that a majority of the Padres fanbase don't know who either Worrell is.

I used Tim Redding since he's not in baseball anymore either......thought all you quick witted folks would p/u on that...oh well...so much for my multi-layered joke....using a retired arm, and spoke in past tense to compare w/ Worrell....sorry it was beyond you Dodger fans....my bad
