    Padres making push for Manny?

The Sox also remained deep in Manny Ramírez trade talks with the Padres, with San Diego sweetening its original offer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks. The Padres are offering major league players for Ramírez, a package that presumably would have to include one of two pitchers: prime setup man Scott Linebrink or ace Jake Peavy. The Sox also have coveted Adrian Gonzalez, a lefthanded-hitting first baseman who put up outstanding numbers in his first full season in 2006: .304, 24 home runs, 38 doubles, and 82 RBIs.

Seems as though the Padres may really be taking a serious stab at trying to acquire Manny.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." -Josh Beckett

According to the Boston Globe, the Padres improved upon their original offer for Manny Ramirez.
The Padres are reportedly offering major league players for Ramírez. The Globe suggests that Jake Peavy is a possibility, but we really doubt that's the case. It seems like Scott Linebrink would almost have to be involved. The Red Sox have also had interest in the past in Adrian Gonzalez, though he would have come quite a bit cheaper a year ago. Others likely to be of some interest include Mike Cameron and Clay Hensley. There's been no mention of Khalil Greene being an option.
I now know the Giants have no chance nor should they because they would have no one to protect Manny in the lineup.

Peavy and AGon for Manny is a terrible idea ....... this team needs those two guys more than just Manny.....

    Giles/Linebrink for Manny better idea
Giles/Linebrink/Greene for Manny/Wily Mo best idea

Why would the Red Sox do that? The difference between Manny and Giles is too large for Linebrink to make up for it IMO. Greene for Wily Mo also doesn't sound good to me, since suddenly, the Sox need a J.D. Drew to complete the OF

Haven't the Red Sox made a ton of moves in the last year that have made no sense whatsoever? Giles/Linebrink for Manny, make it happen.

P.S. it seems like every other trade that the Padres make, it's with the Red Sox.

Like? They've made plenty that haven't worked out, but most of them have had logic behind them.

Like not re-signing Johnny Damon to go after Coco Crisp instead.
And that whole Doug Mirabelli fiasco...

Trading Belli to get Loretta was a very good move, and trading to get Belli was a very bad move, but logical, as they were really get Tim Wakefield back with Mirabelli when they saw Bard couldn't catch the knuckler.

And look at the stats, arbitration money or 13 million dollars? mid-20's or early-mid 30's?

Both moves look bad but had logic. I don't see it here

Not resigning Damon= Yankees vastly overpaying for him. Who knew Crisp was going to suck like that? Nobody on this forum did I know that. Red Sox would prefer Cameron over Giles. Willy Mo shouldn't be in the equation.

Not up to the Padres though. Red Sox have the upper hand.

i don't know i just have the feeling that this is Mannys offseason tradition of being put on the block and in the end he will stay in Boston because he is the only one that can pull off that awesome ManRam Ortiz combo.

    Padres

There's word out of Boston there could be a possible 3-way deal with the Red Sox, Padres and Braves. Here's how the deal, possibly, could go down, yet as I look at it, there has to be more players involved between Boston and Atlanta.

    San Diego -
    Sends: Linebrink,Giles,Greene --> Boston
    Gets: Manny Ramirez

    Boston -
Sends: Linebrink, Pena and/or Crisp --> Atlanta
    Gets: Andruw Jones

    Atlanta:
Sends: Marcus Giles --> San Diego
    Gets: Linebrink, Pena and/or Crisp
