2B is easier to fill than 3rd base.

I'm not saying I fully agree with that POV (that the FO is giving) but it, at least, makes sense.

in regards to Ben Johnson...he's overrated.

I am talking more about Adkins that Johnson. Johnson has had two seasons to show something and didn't so I agree that he overrated. Third base is harder to fill but you have to get a real third baseman.

We won't miss Jon Adkins, he's 29 and he was up and down the entire season.

Furthermore, Towers has proven time and time again that he's a freakin genius when it comes to putting a bullpen together.

Bard couldn't catch a knuckleball. That's the reason you have him.

    Padres

I will confess, this is the first move all off season that I agree with and frankly it is late, I forgot who but someone mentioned the trade that was offered for Big Ben earlier in the year and that is the one we should have taken. I hope this one does not come back to bite us, I much prefer home grown talent over imports, but I simply never saw Big Ben's potential. He came up, played D pretty well and was more or less a flop at the plate, we had fielders, we needed hitters and Big Ben never came through.

Do not confuse Big Ben with Nady, he hit here with no protection in the order and he has hit on two other teams since he has left, if Big Ben pulls that off you will see me kicking myself and for years to come for not believing in him, but I just do not see a future for him in the big leagues and we should have taken the best offer we could get for him.

Someone mentioned Figgins, I do not have a clue who he is, but was posted in the thread, but man, if he can hit the damn ball past the infield and does not have dreams of being the next hank Aaron, someone drop the damn dime AND FIND A DAMN POSITION FOR HIM TO PLAY!!!

Tek couldn't catch a knuckleball either......should we have him too ? Many catchers have a hard time with the knuckleball.......I'll wager that when Tek went down, and Mirabelli blew chunks then went down......they'd have been very happy with Bard....

Wheras I don't think they would've traded us Bard had he not had so much trouble catching the knuckleball you still have to give Towers credit for pulling that deal off, and getting Cla in the process.

Actually, AGon was a beastly spec...he was expendable because of Teixeira though.

And also, if you remember back to the time, there was a large amount of respect for Adam Eaton and I don't think Towers would have taken an unproven Texas pitcher in Young with a crappy 1B spec for Eaton. He knew he was getting a top prospect.

Keep in mind, Otsuka and Eaton were somewhat established, with Termel and Young having potential and AGon being a Top MLB Prospect.

Young wasn't as unproven as people kept making him out to be at the time.

He had a pretty good year in Texas the year prior.

Doesn't change the fact on that's why you got him. They were desperate and the Padres took advantage.
