I don't think any move taking place in the first week after free agency is going to be major except winning the bid for someone like Matsuzaka. Anyone making a move they consider major this early is probably going in the wrong direction.

Interestingly enough, here's a link stating the Red Sox are inquiring about Linebrink

    http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal..._activity.html

Wily Mo Pena would be a good addition for the Pads if they can deal with below average defense, and if not, Coco Crisp would be pretty good in spite of the struggles he had last season.

Willy Mo mashes........why does he only have 350AB's tops.....is he hurt all the time, or just not been given a chance ? He's only 24, I'd do this in a heartbeat if it's a straight up swap.......even if we have to toss in a midlevel prospect.....

He had wrist surgery this past season and missed I think 6 or 8 weeks. Prior to that he was in Cincy where he was part of that awful "We have Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr, Austin Kearns, Wily Mo Pena, Ryan Freel, now what the hell do we do" situation.

    Somehow I highly doubt that.

Padre fans have grown so accustomed to unactive offseasons that they get scared that every little move made will be "the" move.

(besides, the Barfield trade was bigger than this one. So it's not "the" move even if the offseason ended today)

I know it's not "the move" I just don't want this to be considered a "major move"..... since it was nothing more than trading guys that don't play daily.....it feels like it was almost as if it was done just to DO something....and show fans that they were active......even though it was a trade of blah blah blah's

I highly doubt this move was done just to appease fans.

Because if they wanted to just appease fans they wouldn't have done this move.

Ever since Nady left Ben Johnson has become the poster boy for "young, overrated Padres player that doesn't get enough play time and would be a superstar if only they'd play him" in the average fans' mind.

Combine that with us already shipping Barfield to Cleveland and the only thing I fear this move will do in the average fans' mind is feed into the conspiracy theories that the Padres don't want to hold onto any of their young talent.

In colsing: If their #1 goal was to make a move for the sake of making a move they would've dealt someone else.

Then you would get Willy Mo and trade Giles.

Why move Barfield? Why make the trade you just made? Just seems like something the Pads would do based on moves thus far. And only one person can play LF.

That's right......and right now we don't have a LFer, which is why we could use Wily Mo.....

And we traded Giles because the FO thinks it's easier to plug the hole at 2nd than 3rd, and they like this kid Kouzmanoff, and think he'll be better than Barfield....
