Correct; the only thing Barfield has proven thus far is that he can post very average stats even when swinging at every pitch in sight.

I know what you were trying to say but Marte is MLB ready as Kouzmanoff probably isn't but he will get his shot. Barfield's stats are above avergae considering he was a rookie.

I fully realize that Marte would've been a much better acquisition to get in a trade than Kouz. I was simply making a point...which you appear to have got, none-the-less.

Here are Giles' numbers against the NL West.

At San Diego’s Petco Park, he’s hit .209 (9-for-43) with one double, no homers, two RBIs, 12 K and a .510 OPS in 10 games.

At Colorado’s Coors Field, he’s hit .221 (17-for-77) with five doubles, two homers, six RBIs and a .667 OPS in 19 games.

At Arizona’s Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ballpark), he’s hit .227 (10-for-44) with no extra-base hits and a .585 OPS in 13 games.

And at Dodger Stadium he’s hit .255 (14-for-55) with two doubles, one RBI and a .630 OPS in 15 games. Obviously, these are relatively small samples, but oddly these have been four of his worst NL parks.

He’s been better at the other current NL West park, San Francisco’s AT&T (formerly Pac Bell) _ .273 (15-for-55) with one homer, two RBIs and an .803 OPS in 16 games. But still not anywhere near his best.

Good god.......he had a horribly down year, but thats just sickening...and if he's declining due to age, it wont get any better.......the one thing I'll add is that Merv seems to think he knows what's wrong with Giles swing....so hopefully he'll bounce back

Ask Marcus and Brent, it's not easy coming off the needle.

Are you suggesting he was on roids ? If so, know that he was a big boy in HS also.....he's always been a stocky, bulky dude......I remember this because we played against him a few times.......So if he did roids......my guess is that it was way back then

    he's 28.

It's a pretty sad case if he's already on the decline.

It's awkward / funny that you would say this, because my friend graduated with Marcus from high school, and told me he began roiding his sophmore year; even went so far as trying to get my friend to do it also. I highly doub tthis is fake, considering there is also another person whow ent to high school with marcus who said the same thing on the SOSD forums.

I would never suggest that he didn't roid in HS.....I was a Helix 1988 alum, and we had many guys, including me, that juiced up...which is a major reason I'm so against it now....I have first had experience with the subject.....I would suggest that he hasn't since then....because he's remained pretty much the same size.....but if you told me he did in HS..... I wouldn't be shocked or argue at all....

Looks like Giles may not be available for the Pads now afterall. Unless Towers can come up with something else, Giles won't be a Padre.

"And don't expect Scott Linebrink to go to Atlanta for second baseman Marcus Giles. 'With the way the relief pitching is shaking out, it would be difficult for us to trade Linebrink,' said Towers. 'Someone would really have to overpay. If we keep Linebrink, Giles won't happen.' Apparently, neither will Japanese infielder Akinori Iwamura. "
