    2007 Payroll

    This was created by another person, in fact some of you may recognize it, but it was done pretty well and gives a good idea where we need help, and how much we really have to spend and why.....In bold are my thoughts which would add approx. $29-30M if they could be signed for what I've put down, leaving $5-9M+ to sign either 3 relief pitchers, or 2 releivers and another bench guy...

    Looks to me like they are building a helluva team and future.....add a couple key components, for cheap if possible, and we're in great shape for next year and years to come.....and 16M will get sucked up quick between two starting position players and two arbi paydays.....not all of it, but most of it....leaving just enough to add a minor tweak if needed at mid season

    They had $30m to spend in the offseason

    $10m --> Greg Maddux
    $4m(possibly) -->Marcus Giles
    $760k --->Jose Cruz Jr.

    Unless I missed something, that still leaves $15m and change to spend.

    Free Agents:
    Greg Maddux --> $10m
    Jose Cruz Jr. --> $760k
    Marcus Giles (possibly) --> $4m

    Contract options:
    Mike Cameron --> $8m
    Russell Branyan --> $1m

    Arbitration:
    Todd Walker --> $3m

    Total:
    $26.760m

    Ok, unless I missed something again....we're still $3m+ under the $30m that was freed up at the end of last season. Also, what's with the rumors about the Padres going after Jayson "Not Werth Much"? Isn't that the same guy that flipped off Padre fans the last time he actually played?

    No, we're 8 million below the 35 million we had freed; and Maddux's was apparently only 8, so we're actually 10 million or more down, and our revenue should have increased anyways as the owner agreement's stipulations follow, so we should moreoreless be up to 13 - 17 millio under at this point.

    I came to the conclusion that we have about 11M left to spend....and we still need to either sign or trade for a starting LFer, RP, one bench player, and add into this our Arbi additions....that 11M will go pretty quick....if they up our max payroll, then we'll have a little more wiggle room, but if not, we'll have spent just about everything once the roster is filled in...
