    Padres clinch playoff spot!

    A win tomorrow, or a Dodgers loss and the Padres host the Cardinals or Astros.

    A loss tomorrow combined with a Dodgers win and the Padres go to New York.

    Either way, the Padres are in the post season!

    (and yes, of course I want the division.)

    Chris Carpenter is pitching tomorrow...which means he'll more than likely not get 2 games in the NLDS.

    ideal scenario:

    Tomorrow: Padres win, Cards lose, Astros win. Cards have to play the makeup game against the Giants on Monday. Cards lose the makeup game. Cards forced to play one-game playoff on Tuesday against the Astros. Cards win makeup game. Cards face the Padres to start NLDS. Cards exhausted.

    @ the Cards.

    that would only be 163 games, they have that makeup game against SF because it was previously cancelled.

    But 2 days past the end of the regular season and no rest going into the NLDS would still be great.

    The Cardinals scratched Chris Carpenter from his scheduled start Sunday to go with Anthony Reyes on three days' rest.
    Gutsy. Carpenter will now go in Game 1 if the Cardinals win today. If the Cardinals lose and the Astros win, manager Tony La Russa will likely have to turn to his ace Monday against the Giants or Tuesday in a one-game playoff against the Astros.
