Thread: Give it up.

    Give it up.

As fans, we colelctively owe our Padres a big fat effin communitive high five for this week's performance. I can't remember being this proud to be aPAdre fan since 1998, soley because they have gone undefeated since that horrible, heart breaking/wrenching/swallowing/burning defeat from last week.

Seriously, whatever you're doing Boch, keep it up. You guys are inspiring. Call me crazy, but if I was ESPN, I'd jump on this story real quick.

they're 6-1 since that defeat, but all in all it's essentially the same thing.

They've obviously put it far behind them and out of their minds.

    What a way to rebound.

I have a question though: why in the world are we throwing Thompson out there in the midst of the most important games of the year when we Have Peavy, Young, Wells, Woody, and Hensley as a perfect five man rotation? I mean, usually teams drop to four man rotations this late in order to perform better, not the opposite and expand to six...

I'd rather not see Thompson starting another game until MAYBE 2007.

Wells had gout, he was scratched at the last second.

Makes sense. I would've prefered they just put out whoever was next on only a three day rest, but I guess Bochy has more fath in Thompson than I do.

If you pitch tomorrow's starter today on short rest, then you'll still have to end up using Thompson for tomorrow's game since you'll have no one.

No; you then proceed to use a four man rotation in which every pitcher gets only a short rest. It's the same thing we did in 2004 and what a lot of coaches do every year in mid September.

Not sure Bochy would want to go into a 4 game series with AZ, with the division on the line and all of his arms just coming of short rest starts.....not exactly smart baseball.....and Thompson has done a helluva job for this team this year....great stop gap guy

and don't confuse that to mean Mike Thompson has pitched great, he hasn't.

He's pitched pretty sketchy, but compare that to what you'd expect from an emergency starter bouncing up and down between AAA and the majors and he's done pretty well for what he's being asked to do.
