'Change' the operative word as Hoffman nears record

Article by Scott Miller at Sportsline.com, it's the headline article there, right now.

    http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9644914

"You know he's not going to overpower you," Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. says. "He's learned over the years how to pitch. That's more important than overpowering you."

"The thing of it is, his changeup makes his fastball look like it's 92 or 93," Colorado's Todd Helton says. "He's got that good of a changeup."

Hoffman has the respect of every real baseball person and especially the players. That's all the respect this man needs.

I just hope he breaks out the 6 remaining saves this season because I won't be living in San Diego next year.

And yes, I know that's a bit of a stretch. (not that it isn't realistic.)

    For good, family's all there.

And to answer the next question, I can afford to move, they can not.

    Daniel's actually going before me.

He'll be moving back to Arkansas in November, I'm not heading back till either December or January.

Exactly. You being a Giants fan, you can hate the Padres, but you have to give respect for Hoffman and his achievments. Its similar to Jeter and the respect he gets from Boston.

You can talk to most Yankee fans and they think Hoffman is a joke.... bigtime respect there...

Many on the East coast or in the mid west don't get to see Trevor, thus they all think the world revolves around MO since the Yanks are on TV 24/7....

Within the NLWest of course he's respected....within the NL he's respected, on the west coast sure.... outside that....I'd say he's still not given the respect he deserves by the avg. fan....

i'm sure Trevor has mad respect around major league baseball as far as the players go.

Fans? well that's a different story.

I don't think Hoffman is a joke at all. I think he is one of the Top 3 Relievers of all time.

He is far and away an amazing pitcher, and anyone who argues that is a ****ing idiot.

However, he is not on Mariano's level, and that's why many seem so hostile towards Trevor. I'm not going to sing Mo's praises since we all know he gets enough already, but Mo's resume speaks for itself, and I'm sure even Hoffman is wowed by Mo.

Having seen Mo pitch in person, I marvel at how anyone can make contact. And he's not as good as now as he was in the late 90's/early 00's.

However, this is a Hoffman thread, and thus I cease my Mo talk to applaud Hoffman's amazing acheivements, and I want to see him break Smith's record more than anyone, because Lee Smith wasn't impressive, he just lasted forever.
