    Russell Branyan = newest Padre.

Traded minor league pitcher Evan Meek and either PTBNL or cash to Tampa for Russell Branyan.

I'm not too excited about this move, just another Mark Bellhorn with a bit more power, really.

Congratulations, you've cornered the market in mediocre, old 2B/3B.

I'd even take Bellhorn over Branyan.... At least Bellhorn can take a BB for ya too.. Be prepared for lots of K's, mixed in with a HR here and there...

I thought he got lots of BB in Boston... Oh well, my bad.... Have fun with Branyan too. K'd to end the game tonight againist Rangers... Maybe the Padres got him to help keep the fans cool at games in San Diego.. Cause he sure does swing and miss a lot and with his size, he will make you a great "cooling" fan...

I just hope he doesn't cost a deserving player his roster spot.

I guess I won't be too displeased if he takes Mark Bellhorn's spot.

What level was Meek at? I just you don't loose out on a good future pitcher!!! That would make it hurt even more.

    Single A, I believe.

    I've never heard of him.

    I'll look him up.

I think you guys are taking the Bobby Cox approach at 3B (we did it with relief pitching): throw shit at a wall, see what sticks.

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com is quick, they already have Meek listed under the Visalia Oaks. (Tampa Bay Single A team. I've been to an Oaks game before when they were an A's affiliate.)

he was 6-6 with a 4.98 ERA 113 Ks, 62 BBs for class A Lake Elsinore (Padres)

    23 yrs old.

Not horrible numbers, looks like he has some potential, his age might be a concern, maybe that is why they were willing to gove him up for Branyan

Exactly what is this guy supposed to do for us ? I like that we gave up nothing for him, but what did we really get ?

Alderson and company apparently think the best way to produce runs is to acquire as many people with career batting averages of .250 or less and a preference of consistently striking out.
