It was a 8 or 9 year sample......and Ozzie was old man come on, this isn't rocket science.....lol

It was an extremely fair sample, and included some of what could be argued were their "prime years".....

Not all prospects pan out. Yes, there are safer picks, but every player drafted for baseball has the risk attached with them that they might not reach their "potential."

A lot of it is luck...this isn't as bad as the Reds fan who brought up that they should have drafted Pujols...and that drafting Pujols makes Walt a genius...no one can really tell what is going to happen with prospects...that kind of thinking is ridiculous to me. If it were like the NFL or NBA where you are pretty much drafting players that are ready for the show, then it would be a different story.
Very true.......the draft is a crap shoot.........and you just never know what you'll end up getting

Fielding Percentage is such a worthless stat that you should feel bad for using it. It's based off of errors and chances and does nothing to determine range, which is a prime factor in how good a fielder is (Manny has one error this year, does that mean he is a superior defensive COF on par with Ichiro?). It also doesn't determine how strong a player's arm is and how often his arm can be the difference between a Scott Podsenik getting on or getting out.

Also, you're using a stat based on human opinion, which makes it flawed to begin with. There aren't that many clearcut errors. The home field scoring judge may like Manny more than Julian Tavarez, so when Ramirez trips and the ball flies over his head for a double, he won't call it an error and Julian will have earned runners to deal with.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

there's really no clear cut way to measure defensive abilities with stats.

Pretty much any defensive stat out there can be torn apart with pure reason.

I'm a big stat head, but I genearlly throw the stats in the trash can when it comes to defense....unless someone has a lot of errors to show that he's not that good, and even then it's a judgement call.

Hey Providence, it's looking more and more like the A's are going to trade Barry Zito. Jayson Stark of ESPN has been reporting that the A's are making a big push for him, not to mention the lobbying Tom Glavine is going to bring Greg Maddux over.

he's still not going to the Padres...if he goes anywhere it's to the Mets...and I'd do it for Milledge and 2 of the 3 rumored pitchers (Maine, Heilman, Bannister)...otherwise, no

Sorry, I meant the Mets are making a push for him. I didn't say Zito was being traded to San Diego, but the Mets have the players to send to Oakland to acquire Zito.
