    Padres make first blockbuster trade

Padres acquired RHP Mike Adams from the Indians for RHP Brian Sikorski.
The Padres could have claimed Adams off waivers when the Mets designated him for assignment on July 4, but they passed then, suggesting that they don't think all that much of him. He'll be optioned to Triple-A Portland. Jul. 18 - 4:17 pm et

minor deal. Didn't lose much, didn't gain much.

I imagine there's people up in arms now at the UT acting as though this is our "one big deal" of the deadline, however...

If this is a blockbuster, then David Riske for Javier Lopez is a trade for the ages.

Eh, I guess it was done because Sikorski wasn't going to clear waivers and Adams doesn't need a 40 man roster spot.

It makes sense, and maybe the Pads can turn around Adams' arm. It was real good a couple years back.

Sounds like the Padres and Chisox are talking about a deal...... could get us the 3bag of the future and get the Chisox some needed help in both CF and in the bullpen

Not really needed in CF. I really like Linebrink, and would love to have him shutting down opponents as a bridge to Bobby Jenks, but with Anderson finally starting to get it with the bat, and having had it since the season started defensively, CF help is no longer needed. Any chance Carillo could move if a minor league arm or two were involved from the White Sox end?

Carillo is a favorite of the fanbase. When Broadway was picked over him, many Sox fans who follow such things were livid. Maybe Carillo and Linebrink for Fields and Broadway?

I could see that happening....and Bochy said this morning at 7:40am that the Padres would have a new 3bag within the next 3 days.....didn't say where or who, but that it would be done

Alderson said it would not be a stopgap guy, that it we are looking to make a move to get a 3bag of the future, that rules out most of what's out there...he also said that we are looking at taking on a little payroll in the deal....so who knows....this was during his 1090 interview
